Totally agree with Fatbelly, she should not contact the company again. Not to see if the account is closed or for any other reason. Just make sure that she keeps a copy of that letter for 6 years - after that she can spend, spend... umm - i mean save, save, save. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0
Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/20110 -
She should put the money into a savings account. That way even if they do win a case and to get the rest of the money, then she can at least get a little bit of interest on it.I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

Not, strictly speaking, legally binding.
However, if the creditor was to attempt any form of action against this account she now has a letter stating this amount would be accepted in settlement and evidence that they cashed the cheque (one hopes) without comment or objection.
I think she should now assume the matter is closed and not make further contact.
I agree - Miss B - please tell your daughter not to contact HSBC, at all, about this matter.
Should HSBC contact her, please show any correspondence to a legal adviser (CAB, NDL, CCCS) before replying.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

It's my mum, not my daughter. I haven't reproduced yet...to my knowledge
Will make a note of local CAB in case they do contact her - but as of now she is living under the assumption it's done with. However, she has indeed ring fenced the larger amount in a savings account.0 -
Hope its not a HSBC connected account !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0
