  • Details of purchasing a Visa Electron card:

Available for any (whole pound) amount between £10 and £300
Safer than posting cash and less hassle than a cheque
Easy to activate and use nearly everywhere that accepts Visa Electron
    Your choice of great designs
    Only £3 to purchase
Personalised with the recipient's name and a choice of greetings
    Delivered to yourself

    I see there's a charge of £3.
I wonder if you can get this card for free in your local branch?

Your local Halifax/HBOS will supply this free of charge when you apply for an account. My card came within 10 days. As someone has explained earlier an Electron card is available to virtually anyone and not students. it is an account that allows you to withdraw £300 and does not allow you a cheque book.

Entropay on-line virtual electron card. 10 mins to register and set up funds.

Can you tell us a bit more about Entropay?

I had a quick look at their website. Seems like a pretty good deal (for the cheapo tickets anyway). Costs 4.95% to load the card, which would make a £1.00 flight cost £1.05 :D

But it doesn't mention Electron anywhere.

    https://www.entropay.com - is that right?

I used it successfully in Jan to book 4 return flights. Found it via a link on here somewhere and this article here:- http://bargainsireland.wordpress.com/2008/11/21/avoid-the-credit-card-charge-when-booking-with-ryanair/

I think it did refer to Electron when I did it, but I may be wrong. Worth risking 5% to save £5 per flight fees.

I never knew of "Virtual" Electron cards, interesting reading so something has come from this thread :)

If like me you are fed up of Ryan Air slapping on £X for using a Debit/credit card.
The only way around this is to use a Electron card which I personally only thought they issued to 12 year olds!
So the way around is to buy Ryan Air vouchers which you don't pay the commission for using Credit/Debit cards and use them that way.
N.B Only buy the vouchers to the value you think your flights will be as you will get no change from them!

    Hope this helps?

I found out too late about the use of Ryanair Vouchers. I booked a £10 flight with a £25 voucher. Tried to book some more flights after and wasn't allowed? Is there anything I can do ?
  • As a frequent flyer with Rayanair I've found quite a few strange ways in which they try to make money out of us ?

I was told at the gate recently that I couldn't check-in because it was printed on both sides ?

I then had to return to the counter and pay another £10 to obtain another boarding pass ! Has this happened to anyone else ? I checked much of the small print and couldn't see this rule anywhere ? Is it worth complaining ? I was about to, but discovered that the only thing you can't do on-line with Ryanair is of course 'complain'! Clever stuff eh ?

    Many thanks
