And just as i was saying should 1 drop out of the sky, a day later:eek:
Hopefully the crew and passengers are okay, fingers crossed they hovered into position and ditched and that the flotation devices are keeping them afloat until rescue. It's cold out there so fingers crossed the rescue helicopters get to them quick.
Good result, a controlled ditching.Official MR B fan club,dont go............................0 -

I thought this quote from the BBC story was interesting. The skipper, Mike McWheeler said "If we find that b4stard Mitch who was supposed to check this crate we're going to string him up from the nearest rig"0

This kind of incident is usually a gearbox problem.0

Not 1 of ours although we do run the EC225 helicopter and i suspect the AC will be grounded tomorrow with the top brass having twitchy bums. My ar*e was admittedly twitching when i found out but soon realised it was not 1 from my company and relaxed a little.
Dealsearcher, not a wise move to start assumptions, the puma that went down in the 90's for example was down to a lightening strike. It is possible that its a GB problem, but too early to say. Hums and the CVFDR (flight data recorder) will show if its a mechanical failure. Im sure ill find out tomorrow.
Main thing though is the guys are safe.0 -

I speak from some knowledge. It is just a thought from many years of flying helicopters on the North Sea. Most other serious helicopter problems either mean you fall out of the sky (e.g. main blade failure) or can continue to a running landing on a runway (e.g. tail rotor failure).0 -
I see it crashed on the approach to an oil rig so it may have been tail rotor failure. You only really have a problem with that as you slow down and need to use the tail rotor. It is unlikely to be engine related as you fly your approach with the assumption that you will have an engine failure. The Super Puma has two engines.
Of course it could be weather related if the weather was bad.0 -
There is no one "scottish accent",,,thats like saying the english all sound the same, which they dont. And you cant blame all of us because of one prat who got into govt. I just hope he emigrates to Oz after he gets flung out , cos we dont want him back here !!
Singlesue, my OH has volunteered to come down and read the phone book to you....:)0 -
My post 46 was based on the report of a helicopter ditching 'off the scottish coast'. This indicated an enroute problem. On approach to a rig 120 miles out is not 'off the scottish coast'!
I should have paid more attention to dopester's quote!0
