Banks & BRs

Hi all

I know I've seen this mentioned many times but then I haven't been thinking too straight for quite a while now!

I've heard Barclays are sometimes ok for a basic account after BR but as I have a largish overdraft with them and owe Barclaycard too, I wondered if they'd still give me one?

Any experience or advice you have would be gratefully rec'd.

Cheers all

  • well..barclays were one of my biggest creditors & they offered me a basic account although they've seemed to be a little awkward of late with some account enquirys....you can only try (if they refuse try the co-op)

  • When I called telephone banking I was told by Barclays that I had to see someone & do face to face application in local branch & no-way could I open basic account over the phone. I was told to make an appointment. !! Annoyed as I`ve banked with them since I was 16 & so they don`t need ID etc...felt like a marketing ploy to me!!

The Coop however did the application over the phone, sent all papers in the post...I popped in to show ID then got everything else in the post a few days later...was a lot less hassle with Coop.

    Just my experience,

  • I agree....barclays offered me a basic account but I still went to the co-op (far far superior) :D

Also the Coop online banking is so much simpler than Barclays pin-sentry!!! That damn silly calulator device thing drives me to distraction..thats when I don`t keep losing it....I shall not miss it at all.

    Oh dear....better go get a coffee & chill :D
  • I have just phoned Barclays up seeing as they've had my application for 5 weeks. I was told it had been declined and was asked my financial situation. When told I was bankrupt, the bloke very nicely said he'd appeal my application and get back to me this afternoon. It would be nice to be able to stop using my wife's chip and pin card as if anyone ever checked the name on the card, I look nothing like a Fanny.
  • I'm having the same problem. I got declined from Co-op before I went BR on the 29th Jan and I think I know why. I put my address as being my new address (not so new as I have lived there since nov 2007) not my mothers address (where all my bills go and where I am still registered on the electrol register)

So I left it and tyhought oh well will go to Barclays as their electron card would be good. I have a Barclays OD of cica £2200 and a Sky card (barclaycard) of circa £3500 both in my BR, I went into the branch on the day of my BR told them I am BR filled in the form, was very polite:rolleyes: . But got a decline letter today saying they did a check on me and I don't met the criteria. I am at a total loss as to what to do, but would be very interested in your appeal Custard.

I've been using my mums account which is her only and main account so it's getting difficult.
  • Any experience with Think banking?
  • If I don't owe a bank say Natwest any money and my credit file hold no BRO on it but is very bad regardless say upto 4 late payments on most accounts do you thin they would accept me on say a STEP account?

    No they won't unfortunatly.

Have you changed all your details to your new place yet, or are you still registered at your mums?

  • Have sent the forms in again (recorded this time) like I did Dec 2007 but Equifax is still showing my mum's

I just think by appealing and explaing it all plus being BR they will think I am well dodgy and won't give me the time of day, even though I have proof of both addresses (CC bills and statement at my mum's and utilities at my new)
