Agreed but still MORE than he will gain!0 -
Anyway i went to CAB today and was told OH cannot claim anything for 6 months and that he doesnt need to sign on to keep his NIC up todate either, so many different answers from different people is really confusing, but i am sure anniehanlon you will be especially pleased to hear this info.
Also told to return and speak to an adviser when we are basically penniless, up to our eyeballs in debt and about to be kicked out of our home and here was me thinking by getting help at a early stage we could prevent this, how silly was i (sad)0 -
You misinterpreted what i said, i wasnt having a pop at you, i was having a pop at the system as it was described in the thread. Wrongly described as it turned out. What i find sad is that other posters didnt check their facts and got your hopes up and now you feel this way becuase of them not me.
So there really was no need to be nasty to me just because i was right I get no pleasure from it.
And in your first post you said that you had six months pay and £6,000 redundancy. Hardly penniless as you have said in your last post.
i genuinely wish you well for the future.
and whats more the other posters should be apologising to you toot sweet.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I based my comments on the case of a colleague who was made redundant about 5 months ago, who was able to claim right away. I am going to be in the same position on 1st March, with a lump sum of 6 months notice pending negotiation, and will also be claiming immediately.
It probably depends on how the notice payment is treated. The OP's other half seems to be paying tax/NI on the notice. However, if there's no PILON clause in your employment contract, any "notice" payment is regarded as compensation for breaking the contract, rather than a real notice payment and is not subject to tax/NI. Maybe it's in that case you can receive benefits right away.
I'm sorry if I got your hopes up patskier, I'm not an expert on these things and can only speak from (current and past) experience. I do hope that things get better soon - the market may be tough, but there are certainly jobs out there.
Note: although I would normally expect the CAB to be correct, I would check directly with the JobCentre to be sure that the advice they gave is right.0 -
cross posted from another thread

You can get JSA (Contribution Based) immediately if you are covered by PILON. My partner was awarded it straight away after he was made redundant last October, and he advised the Job Centre that he had 3 months PILON.
There are many threads in the forum where people are saying the same thing. Don't delay, claim straight away

Anniehanlon its the very fact that you seem to begrudge people aid that i find upsetting, your first comment was directed at anyone seeking help and quite frankly i find that unfair, my Oh and i like so many thousands of others have worked hard for 20+ years, bought our own houses etc etc, its not our fault the economy is the way it is and people are loosing their livelihoods and homes!
I think at the very least there should be aid to assist and i do not think it should be begrudged!
And if you read my post correctly you will see that i said they said to go back when we are basically penniless, i.e approx 6 months time!
Thankyou Lumpycustard and sunshinejoclaire i will phone the DHSS tomorrow and see what they say.0 -
I am not begruding people aid when they need help and again yu have not read my post correctly.
I was having a pop at the system.
What i object to is people being paid twice, once from the employer and again from the state for the same time. Hopefully it will not happen and your OH will get a job in the meantime and it wont apply.
Just as a matter of interest I am 59 years old and have worked since i was 15 years old with the exception of 2 x 1 year out to have children so i too, like thousands of others have paid a lot of money into the system. I have never claimed benefits of any sort in all that time.
You have the best idea in getting the correct information from the horses mouth and ringing the DSSmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
