Another Bank gets it's bonuses at our expense.

I've not read whole thread.. tut, tut..but not up to too much data input this evening.
However.
Seems to me that no one wants anyone else to get anything. Hence the fuss over foreign workers, bank bonuses, anyone in fact who might be making a bit of money while the rest of us are feeling poorer and more threatened by the day.
Either you believe in a capitalist model, which entitles a business to run itself how it sees fit, and that includes using foreign workers and paying bonuses if so desired OR you really do want a Socialist model where we all get the same as each other.
I know that's not what most people want so I can only put the anger about foreign workers, bonuses, etc. down to petty jealousy.
Mewbie xxx
So if we "believe in the capitalist model "then the banks should go bust , then NO bonus is paid.
Saying people are jealous because they have an opinion that disagrees with your mewbs surely can't be right?. Have you been at that bottle of merlot again? :rotfl: Its just so unlike you .:D ps Im making money but it doesn't stop me caring (moaning)0 -

I think a business should be allowed to do what it likes within a few limits like redundancy, sickness pay, etc. Pay bonuses if they want.
I think the banks should either have been nationalised or allowed to fail. So no HBOS, but maybe Lloyds still OK. Not fudge as we currently have.
I accept you are annoyed because I had a dig at Brown and that was unfair of me. I know I am the first thing he thinks of each day he wakes up.0 -
Oh dear. I don't want to talk about boring banks. I want to have fun, a life even. And you don't want, or need to know what I think about it... but OK... if you insist.

Infact, part of the reason Woolworths had to wind up is because of lack of credit from the banks.
No, their retail arm was not profitable. Store X doing well in isolation cut out from the division is not profit. BTW I know very well why Woolworths was wound up - why, when, what happened and how. I think I was a bit closer to the action than you were.
But ultimately it wasn't the staff that screwed up, it was their idiot board of directors. Same thing with the banks - as long as the organisation is still breathing and solvent, the people doing the actual work deserve to be paid in full. Its not the fault of the Halifax bank teller if Andy Hornby is a cretin.0 -
Performance related pay is a good idea when it means the company gains greater benefit then the amount paid in the bonus.
It obviously fails to make sense where the actions of those people has not been to the benefit of the company.
However the (mis)direction of the company was probably dictated from the top not skewed by sales guys being dishonest so its not straightforward
If the company is teetering on the brink of collapse its probably best to at least half the bonus regardless of blame, tough luck0 -
Thankfully my pay-slip today confirmed tomorrow's bonus. I'll enjoy transferring it to my savings account.
It may be my last one!0 -

Are they not being paid in full when they get their wages?
I sold cars, i got a bonus for selling cars and meeting my targets. If i sold above my target i got a better bonus if i sold below my target i got very little.
The job i have now i don't sell anything, thank god, but i do get a wage and i do my job to the best of my ability. I am on minimum wage too. We got a bonus last year of £50 M & S vouchers last year at xmas that was all staff even including partners. This year nothing, did i expect a bonus NO. You can't have what isn't there. You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !
Would you like to speak to the man in charge, or the woman who knows whats happening?0 -

Not sure what your point is there, but I don't think many people would argue that they should receive a bonus for not meeting/exceeding their targets. You are correct that they can't have it if it is not there, so it must be there.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0
