Like I said my sister is obsessed and the whole family has been brain washed!!:o
heres a wee link for you about whats in some of these dog foods...
http://www.k9capers.com/feature-nutr..._pet_foods.asp
and a bit from it...
Meat and Animal Derivatives or Animal By-Products
Most dog and cat foods will use meat and animal derivatives as their only source of animal protein. These consist of heads, feet, guts, lungs, feathers, hair, wool and unborn eggs.
yummy!;)
Thanks for that ...But where does it categorically say in that article that this is what Lidls food is made from??????'' A man who defends himself, has a fool for a client''0 -

the ingredients on the pack, it has the word derivatives on it....basically means it could have anything in it...the link was so people knew what the word meant.
At the of the day, each dog is different and if your dog is enjoying it and healthy then there is no problem!;) And its not just lidls its in alot of dog food. You may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
You just keep on walking0 -
As I always advise, please dont look at initial cost per bag as the true cost of food but to look at how much it costs per day to feed your pet. The Arden Grange I feed my dog is around 35 quid a 15kg sack but only costs around 30p a day to feed, and Arden grange is one of the premium kibbles
So true I feed Royal Canin Kitten & will move to persian.
One of the most expensive foods to buy in the shops.
But per day, probably less than Whiskers:D0 -
.. just looked, and Wagg has nothing listed as being "animal derivatives" - just 'meat meal' - which royal canin has too... (and which according to wagg is from human food grade meat)0

PLEASE DON'T SHOOT ME DOWN, I mean seriously, don't!!lol

A little bit from it...
The problem with meat meal is that rendering plants accept a lot more than just cow and pig carcasses from slaughterhouses. They also take grease and other restaurant and supermarket waste, road kill, dead zoo animals, and hundreds of thousands of euthanized cats and dogs. It all gets cooked together and shipped off to pet food companies.
Sorry for posting this but once my sister went on about it, it did shock me!You may walk and you may run

!
But that is from a US website - I would imagine the rules may well be different in Europe, but, even if not - I believe that anything described as "human food grade" cannot include condemned animals, roadkill, etc etc...
However, it may well be the less desirable/useable bits of meat animals - eg. chicken necks, feet, giblets etc... (however, over on OS some people could probably rustle up a lovely dinner from them!:rotfl: )0 -

I mean scraps from the table, foraging for food, living in the wild. They must have all had very short, starving lives before human came along and sorted them out a proper healthy balanced diet in a bag!!
But then my wee sausage is so far removed from a wild dog that theres no chance of him ever surviving in the wild, same as all pedigree (man made) dogs so its a moot point0 -

I know, they probably have half of that in the slow cooker as we speak....thing is I once ate a tesco value nugget or 2 and I'm here to tell the tale, chances are dog food is better made!!!:rotfl:You may walk and you may run

Actually I think you will find that all the supermarket brand use that manky old cooking fats to coat the kibble to make it more apealling to our dogs.
After all dog food production only came about when the big food proccessors realised that their waste products could be turned into profit0 -
The one thing that that article does say that every dog owner will know - what goes in will come out, and you the owner has to pick it up.
Now my cocker does nice wee hard poos twice a day - two chipolata sausages, easily picked up, no woriies of slopping it anywhere or needing sand to cover or anything.
Over feed him or put him on a supermarket brand and we have a poo machine
And belive me when I moved here and could not scource the brand I feed him I tried the ones PAH said were premium - POO central:eek:0
