  • I was referring to the WPA security code rather than the password itself. It doesn't matter about the latter. The password for the Orange broadband itself is the one where you enter your e-mail address and password, though that's guaranteed to be correct if the other things attached to the console can access the internet. If that were wrong you wouldn't be able to access the internet at all regardless of what was connected how.
sorry, read you wrong there lol
no i haven't changed the WPA.

Have you had any previous issues with the Livebox dropping or refusing connections with other things in your house, like other consoles, computers etc? I have broadband with Orange but have had an absolutely horrendous time with the Livebox. After two months I was on my third Livebox and after hours of tinkering, searching, and phoning troubleshooting lines I just couldn't get it to work consistently. In the end I have kept the broadband because it's very cheap, and cheaper than any alternative, but I use my old Netgear router rather than the Livebox. It's just an awful piece of kit. A lot of people have similar problems, and there rarely seem to be definitive solutions. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but in my experience you're attempting to fix an issue with something that is poorly built in the first place.

In terms of generic suggestions, have you changed the password from the default? Not obtaining an IP address wirelessly suggests that the password on the Xbox is wrong. That said it should still connect via ethernet if all of the logon details on the router itself are correct. How many other things are connected to the router? It only supports six, though in my experience it is liable to throw a fit with anything over three.

Hi - I never realized how useless the Livebox is. I haven't been able to get a wireless connection on my Macbook, my lodger's laptop or my son's Wii, and despite what Orange tell you ... ringing the helpline using my contract Orange mobile is NOT free ... it's a premium rate number. I am sitting out the last two weeks before I can quit with them and find a broadband provider who is prepared to help their customers. It might be free, but if you can't use it there's no point. CAN'T WAIT TO LEAVE. Just hope the next experience is better!
  • Can you establish any form of connection? From the dashboard have yo tried going to

My Xbox > System Settings > Network Settings > Test Xbox live connection

What happens when you do, does it give you any error emssages?

Also, are you on a paid subscription for xbox live, has it run out? has your trial expired. Obviously if it's either of the latter, you wouldn't be able to get on.

To be fair the service itself is fine, and cheap. The connection I get with the Netgear Router is fantastic. It's the Livebox Itself that is so badly made I'm convinced that the insides are stuck together with plasters.

when i test the xbox live connection the only message i get is cannot obtain ip address.
I just put the wireless adapter onto my other xbox, which he doesn't use to access live, and it connected on problem:confused:
so im guessing there is a problem with my sons xbox? on the wireless adapter?
My son has a silver membership at the moment, and usually goes onto xbox live to update the xbox etc.

Do you know if I can buy another router that's better made, or did you get your Netgear one through being with a previous provider? I agree the Orange service is very cheap ... but it's the lack of help that makes me so mad ... I suppose you only get what you pay for. Perhaps I ought to consider staying with them, using another router as you do.

The Livebox should be providing the IP for the XBox.

The Netgear one was one that I'd bought previously when I was with Tiscali (never again). I bought it about two years ago, and have never had a problem with it. A new router can be a little pricey, but if you're intent on sticking with the Orange broadband it might be your only option.

Hmmm ... I think you may have a really good point. I've had a quick look at the price of the Netgear ones (they vary a lot ... not sure I know what I need). You do hear awful things about a lot of the cheap providers ... including Tiscali who tried to take my sister to court and then backed down. She says "never again" too! Thanks for your help.:T
