Motability aids

It may seem a stupid question (or not), but are there any websites where you can see what aids you can use to help you do whatever task?
A few years ago we (mam and I) walked into a mobility shop at the metro centre, and asked a "stupid" question - is there anything to help putting socks on without bending too much? Of course, there was such a gadget, and honestly it has allowed mam to put her socks and tights much easier.
That shop has now closed down, so we cant go in and ask questions for other tasks. Are there any websites that would give inspiration as to what is available?
Thanks

Halfords have now started selling all sorts of mobility aids here.
not sure if they will have all you need but they have lots of shops
hope this helps!0 -
Why not ask for an assessment by an Occupational Therapist? He/she will know about all sorts of aids which will help. Some may be offered free but, even if you want to buy them, you will know exactly what you're looking for.
My Mum and Dad did this before they bought a stairlift and so we were able to buy one which catered exactly for their needs. The OT suggested some things we hadn't thought of.0 -

Good Grief.
Halfords.
Does this mean that the grunts who generally throw together the kids' push bikes near Christmas and shrug their shoulders when asked a question about suitable third party spares for a car built within the last 7 years, could now be responsible for disabled vehicles?
I'm scared now.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I went to DIAL for help with filling in my DLA forms. The lovely lady there asked if I had seen an advisor about aids - mobility and other. She arranged the appointment and I had a one-one appointment where I could see the aids available and try them to see which suited me best.
If you contact your local DIAL they may know where your local service is.0 -
I would contact you Social Services dept and ask either for an Occupational Therapy referral or, if there is a waiting list and you are unable to wait, I would ask whether they have a list of suggested suppliers in your local area. They cannot recommend businesses as such but they may be able to suggest suppliers that we have used in the past.:jThanks to everyone who post competitions/freebies :jStarted comping June 2011 and wins/freebies so far are..JLS cd Tabasco sauce Toothpaste Simple eye corrector pen Armarni Sport Code Bio effect serum Charles Worthington hair straightening kit Lancome mascara Rimmel mascara £50 gift card Breakfast Cereal0

Dial helped me with my first occupational health and mobilty aids check, i needed a walking stick/stroller for indoors (door ways not wide enough for chair) and w/chair outdoors.
Be warned been on the SS waiting list to be seen, 2 months in i have 4 months to go, or 5 months depending on who i speak to, whilst i wait i am now housebound if alone as i can't get my electric wheelchair out the door over the door step, i need a ramp, but need to be assessed for it, and that's a good 4 months away... apparently i have to stay in until then.
http://www.disabledgear.com/ for secondhand stuff not bought anything on here yet, but i like how you can sort to the distance from you.Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0
