Royal Mail fined

http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=213212006

The Royal Mail have been fined £11.7 million over "serious" breaches of its licence because of the amount of post which is lost, stolen or damaged, the industry's regulator has announced. Postcomm said it had uncovered some "serious" shortcomings during 2004/05, when 14.6 million letters, packets and parcels were lost, stolen, damaged or interfered with.

I'm not at all surprised, whenever I phone about yet another lost parcel they never seem to be worried and just take it as 'one of those things'. Even when I lost a lot of recorded delivery items they just said they were aware of a problem and gave me extra compensation.

I think this news explains why I trust my buyers when they say they haven't received a package, slightly more than I trust the RM to deliver it.

It's good that they've been fined - perhaps they will try and get their act together.
The only problem is that there shortcomings do make it easier for people to claim none-delivery and cheat the system.
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.
  • Royal Mail's attitude to lost post really stinks. I sent something by recorded mail which according to the tracking was delivered. Well it wasn't. They then want me to pay to find who signed for it. Try and get compensation is laborious....

Heard about this on the radio at lunch, just as I had posted a few of my things on ebay...

    ... Oh great!
  • Royal mail deliver 90,000,000 million items a day on average from letters with no addresses on them just surnames that get to the correct house.Parcels that have been wrapped in tissue when it should of been correctly wrapped, and just awfull illegible writing on them they are classed as undeliverable. I promise you we don't know how lucky we are having such a good reliable service even though it's being ripped apart by postcomm which it set up it self and pays for by the way by royal mail.Five years ago best service in the world very profitable indeed. Then all of a sudden new way of working brought in against postmans advice change of name to consignia (£14,000,000 cost) then a few months later back to royal mail cost loads again!!! Time change for starting later in the mornings posties against this but put through anyway, deliveries made 3.5 hours instead of 2.5hrs long against the wishes of posties again, this was so 2nd deliveries were stopped. Then all of a sudden loss making millions everyday this has to change they say so set up new rouitine next year making £500,000,000 profit chairman awards himself 3,000,000 bonus.Anyway if you look at the big picture the people at the top plus government want the public against Royal Mail as before they would not want it privatised but now I get the impression they don't care go ahead attitude, but we will look back I'm sure regretting that it went ahead when us ebayers start paying alot more etc etc etc .God I feel better after thats of my chest I hope some one reads this and can make sense ta ta for now!!!!

There was an article in the Daily Star today saying that a women that worked for Royal Mail hauded 7.2 tonnes worth of mail in her house and did not bother delivering the items, apparantly she collected all the mail over a 5 year period and some letters were being delayed upto 4 years. Think it was in Devon where it took place.

I remember seeing a documentary a while ago about Royal Mail showing how crap the service was and you never know what goes missing or who gets hold of it

Good news here, lets hope royal mail get many more fines as there service is awful. Espically when posting to Irleland you have to wait 1-2 weeks, you can get mail the other side of the world in that time.
    Cashback sites are worth it:
    GP Cashback- £50 (£35 paid)
    PigsBack- £5.00 (£30 paid)
    Topcashback- £40 (£40 paid)
    Quidco- £50 (£43 paid)
    Ipoints- 500 + 2 CDs claimed

Postal services where I live are now so bad that I have had to resort to paying recorded and special delivery charges so instead of a 30p stamp I can pay upto £3.85 just to ensure my paysheets get through.

Today though I recieved a package which I had paid £1.54 for recorded delivery, posted through the letter box without being signed for.

Its not the first time either. Three parcels in the past year have not been signed for, four paysheets went amiss, a credit card replacement never made it here, two birthday cards - one with a cheque enclosed never made their destinations and a pc monitor sent recorded delivery also went astray :(

I dont mind paying for a service - as long as I get what Im paying for. The Royal Mail cant deliver :(

I can't complain. I have had less than 1% of my post go missing or turned up damaged. 99% of claims I put have have been rewarded with compensation even if I only sent the parcel by unrecorded delivery.
