  • hello everyone, i'm a newbie, my names sonia and was well chuffed to find this forum! I'm 43, and have ankylosing, onset at about 23years old, my father has it, and also my youngest sister! As well as this, 2 years ago l had underam lymph nodes and part of breast removed, then 1 year ago had entire thyroid and lymphs removed due to tumour. Hey ho, thats how it goes l guess! Anyways, as anyone with AS knows, its not a nice disease, but since my thyroid removal i'm also hypothyroid and the symptoms from this just magnify my AS! Like all of you on here, i'm on a ridiculous amount of drugs, for both AS and lack of thyroid! I have noticed on this forum and several others l have joined, that there are several of us sufferers having trouble getting DLA? At this moment in time, l am awaiting an appeal date, and will be attending as l have been told that your chances of getting it are better if you attend! I have already been knocked back twice, and yet 1 year ago l was signed off work by DWP due to being too sick to work, with not much chance of returning to work! Surely if this is the case, then the decision makers can see that l actually am an ill person! I would like to say to all AS sufferers that you should all try for DLA, my rheumatologist reckons we should qualify for it! Good luck to everyone, l will keep you all posted on my DLA hearing and if l can get any tips i'll let you all know! x
