Would you go on holiday with a 8-10 week old baby?

You need to have your doctor's advice and if they said no, then you might have travel insurance problems if you travelled aginst their advice.
Perhaps Oct/Nov might be Ok for a holiday to Lanzarote.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

Travel insurance problems would be the least of their problems if the babies hearing and health was damaged.0 -
Ok, will check again as I hadn't heard that.
Does that really mean Ma as in my mum or is it a typo for man as in my oh? In either case taking my mum along with us prob wouldn't be very relaxing & yes my oh would help out.
Yeah had thought about Oct/Nov except that DS starts pre school in Sept so not sure about taking him out & refuse to pay school holiday prices until I have to!1% at a time no. 40. £8000 (For dream family holiday) 94/100

I agree with Richard W that October/november might be better - you should be able to get as comparatively cheap deal as long as you steer clear of the kids holiday (last 2 weeks of October). First week in December can be very cheap too or January/February.
The great thing with travelling with a small baby is that they cant crawl off and sleeps lots - as long as they are sleeping through the night (another reason to leave it until they are 3 or 4 months old imo)
Of course you have an active toddler to deal with as well - but at least it is only an active toddler (and not a baby desperate to crawl to the edge of the paddling pool every five minutes). We made sure our son was drinking during take off and landing so never had any problems with ear popping - though he was older the first time he flew. Check with GP ref minimum age for flying.
MIght be an idea to get something with some of the meals included so you are not panicking about the ever decreasing pound. (We are due to go to the Republic of Ireland in the summer, and although we get free accommodation I am dreading the price of food and contemplating just taking what I can with us).0 -

I think taking him out for one week at the age of 3 or 4 isnt going to make a huge difference in his long term educational achievements
and I doubt the pre-school will care (there is no statutory requirement regarding attendence at that age) - you would have to pay for the week in all likelihood though. If you are worried about him settling in that is a different matter, but personally I would not stop me taking a holiday. 0 -
Well have also been googling flying with babies just now & as usual have come up with every answer under the sun! Think I might let this deal go, much as it breaks my heart (I love going away & good deals from NI are rare) as I would hate to book it only to find baby was sick or anything & we couldn't go. Thanks for all your thoughts everyone.
lily the pink, where abouts in the republic are you going? If its anywhere near th border you could make like the locals & head up here for the cheap booze, nappies & everything else! Allow quite some time for it though :-(1% at a time no. 40. £8000 (For dream family holiday) 94/100

Ha ha ha! No I think his education would be fine, I'm more concerned about 'rocking the boat' & also him being settled enough by then (think he'll be fine but he doesn't spend all that much time with kids so a bit worried it might overwhelm him). Am gonig to look at prices for oct/nov in a min...1% at a time no. 40. £8000 (For dream family holiday) 94/100

I took my son to tenerife when he was 10 weeks old, we also had a 3yr old at the time too, It was lovely and everything went smoothly. we actually booked the holiday 12 months in advance, before he was even conceived! I had planned on having him so booked cot space so he could have been even younger (yes,I did get some funny looks when booking the hol and it did put quite a bit of pressure on OH that month!)
the flight was great - we were taken out of the check-in queues and given front seats on the plane so that he could travel in a cot attached to the wall, we had a carry-cot (didn't want him sleeping in another cot in the hotel:eek:!) up until the door of the plane, nappies etc all went in the hold.
holiday itself was great, he had a lovely time in the pool and was able to sit up completely unaided by the time we got back, I feel this was due to being in a baby float a lot of the time (either in the pool or sitting in it at the side of me) and getting strong from this
We choose tenerife just because I thought it wouldn't get too hot and the water etc would be fine so lanzarote would be just as safe. I'm not sure I would have been so comfortable taking him if I hadn't been breast feeding though. I would def recommend it to anyone, very relaxing and I was able to recharge my batteries as I'd not been well having him x0 -
the only worry i would have is its between the injections stage at 8 to 12 weeks so you will need to make sure baby has had the first set and eturns in time for the 2nd.
also take calpol, my daughter got a temp in cyprus the other week and i had to get the chemist to come out past midnight to sell me some whilst i was sat near a sex shop waiting in the dark for ages:eek:
thankfully she was fine but was a bit terrifying as shes never been ill brfore and i think maybe the change in temp ws all too much for her as it went hot, cold, during the day.

I think you are all so brave lol! I would never take a 10 week old baby abroad, not because I think it is wrong, but because I don't think it would be a holiday at all.
When my daughter was that age the best thing was having a break at home and using the holiday money to help me, eg, ironing person, cleaner, babysitters so that I could go out etc. At one point when my ex worked abroad I spent almost all my life on a plane with a one year old, so I have done it, but there may be more relaxing ways to spend your time
If you go somewhere where the majority of time is spent by the pool in a hot country, that would be uncomfortable for the baby, and you will spend most of your time applying sun cream and trying to stay in the shade.
What about Centerparcs?Thought processes can be managed positively, so that they help you to achieve what you want, rather than hindering your judgement.0
