From time to time they give bonus point offers which can quickly add up - rather more rapidly than spending.
  • Thanks for all the info!!!
I am currently using the asda credit card, its not that good. You get about £40 worth of asda vouchers for about every £20,000 spent. There has never been a tesco within 10 miles from me but they recently opened a giant tesco extra just up the road so I have started shopping there now.
I pay my card off every month I just use the 30 days free credit for my business so all I would be doing is stopping spending on my asda cc and replacing it with my tesco cc.
I need to renew my car insurance end of Feb so I will look in to tesco sounds like a good bonus.
I don't use that much petrol, maybe £100 per month, but will be making a point of filling up every time I pass tesco lol.
Ink cartridge (I use fake epson cartridges at £1), phone recycling and dvd rental - dont think they apply to me.
I drink LOTS of wine - never used tesco wine before, now is the time to start I think, I waste so much money on very cheap nasty bottles for £6 a go at the local shop. Only problem is, the more thats sitting in the house the more I drink. A bit like why I dont buy the huge multipacks of crisps lol.
The holiday I am looking at would be Cosmos and I would be hopeing to save enough points to pay the full brochure price in full which I have worked out about £2000, we can go any time of year so if I was short of target I could easily wait a few months.

so *getting my calculator back out!!*

    18 months

    Credit card non-tesco spend 18,000points
Tesco entertainment spend aprox £100 per month 1,800points
Tesco direct spend aprox £200 per month 3,600points
Tesco grocery spend aprox £300 per month 5,400 points
Car insurance spend aprox £600 for 18 months 600 points
Wine £50 per month 900 points
TOTAL 30,300 NOT INCLUDING BONUS POINTS ECT

I do not want to fall in to the trap of spending at tesco just for the points, but that is what I can realistically see my self spending just by swapping a few things around.
Now its looking a bit more achievable....

And virgin holidays tend to be more expensive than expedia etc, some cc vouchers I have are close to expiring so thought I would put them into virginholiday vouchers, however prior to doing it I priced up a holiday and it was considerabely more expensive than the same holiday booked through expedia.

    Just a thought.

I understand where you're coming from, but even if the holiday costs, say 10-20% more than booking elsewhere, if you can get 50% or more off by using vouchers, its still a big saving (especially if there are no other deals you'd want to spend the vouchers on).

Tesco Direct often have double / triple points events which would be worth looking out for if you are going to make a big purchase.
    [STRIKE]CC1: £354.35 / £354.35[/STRIKE]
    CC2: £390 / £1475.98
    Boiler: £1500 / £2500
    [STRIKE]Overdraft: £1000 / £1000[/STRIKE]
    Emergency Fund : £20
  • Its a big saving i.e free holiday if you were going to spend the same amount on groceries/petrol somewhere else, thats what I am thinking.

Get a clubcard plus. It's a debit card and you get double points but you can only use it in Tesco. google "tesco vouchers" to see if there are any extra points codes around. Online shopping is one of the best ways of getting extra points, 200 or 500 points when you spend £50 on online groceries.

We had a Cosmos holiday using Tesco points and a good tip from Cosmos was if there's a general "10 % off brochure price", which sometimes happens when a new brochure comes out then that applies to the Tesco price too but internet prices don't apply for tesco vouchers.

I agree completely. we're of to Las Vegas/Grand Canyon/LA/san Diego in a few weeks time, approx 40% of the cost paid with Tesco vouchers. :j
No way we could afford to do this without them!
