T-mobile: refuse to give me PAC number before the contract expires
hi,
i called up t-mobile twice to get my PAC number which is a number i need to keep my existing mobile phone number when im porting to another network.
i spoke to two operators and they both told me that they can only give me my PAC number on the last day when my 12 month contract expires.
i find this a bit annoying because they will take another 7 working days to port my number to another network when i get a new contract. 7 working days isnt much, but iv got a cash back deal and the 7 working days will work out quite expensive and dent my pocket!
anyone else had this problem?
any way around this?
cheers in advance,
Skiddy

Phone them back and ask for it again. I previously got my PAC code from Orange at the end of month 11 (ie 30 days before the end of the 12 month contract). As getting the PAC is also a way of ending your contract, then this is effectively giving 30 days notice (if you use it!). If you use before your contract is up, you will be liable for any remaining line rental for your minimum term (12/18 months).
If I recall correctly, they cannot reasonably refuse you your PAC as this PAC policy is set by Ofcom rules and agreed by all the main providers. The only two valid reasons are the number is disconnected or the minimum term of the contract has not been fulfilled.

thanks for the reply anon,
i was browsing through the link you sent me and stumbled across whis clause:
"Is there any reason why my current SP will
not issue a PAC?
There are only 2 reasons:
• If your number is disconnected, or
• if you have a minimum term contract, you will need to arrange to pay the remaining subscription before being issued with a PAC
here is the exclusion that t-mobile are using against my account.
tough luck i guess!
thanks for looking,

It might be the exclusion that they are using. Just ring up again and ask for your PAC again, many people on other networks ask for them in advance (days/weeks) before their contracts expires. T-mobile are just trying to be awkward so that either you forget or try to tie you in for another month. You might have already done this but you have not mentioned it in your post, but you have to make sure you gave t-mobile 30 days notice that you were cancelling your contract with them or else you will be tied in for another month, meaning delaying the starting point of the cashback deal or paying an extra month than you wanted to.
As mentioned in previous posts, you could tell t-mobile to (stuff it
) change it (not sure if prior notices is required for this) to a PAYG sim (so that you keep your number), activate it, i.e. by registering it and then get a PAC from t-mobile to use for your new cashback deal. Yes this solution takes time but it will be cheaper than paying for another month???:j

On my last contract with Orange I switched from contract to PAYG (it was free) then when I found a deal a few days later, requested my PAC code. So long as you are in your last 30 days, as you pay in advance for line rental then there should be no reason why they would not give you your PAC (as it meets the requirement above - you don't owe them any money).

T mobile did the same thing when I left them. They wouldnt give it me till the last day but they also lied and told me it wasn't technicaly possible to before that as they can only give a pac once the line is completely disconnected so scared me into thinking of they gave it me my line would be cut immediatelyThanx
