Which bank account?

I am looking at transferring to another bank account which doesn't charge a monthly fee (currently paying £12.50 a month, and have been for years!), with an agreed overdraft (know this costs), normal debit card but must have excellent online services...... can anyone recommend anything that fits the bill? Forgot to say I pay in approx just over £1,200 a month.

Thanks in advance.

sorry just kidding, should have mentioned that i'm pished with them lol

To be honest I use HSBC Plus and they are great but you do pay. However 1st Direct are meant to be one of the best..... but hard to get unless you got good score.

You have to pay in £1500 per month, otherwise you are charged a monthly fee.

I find Halifax to be really good (don't be put off by post #2 above ... it was a joke, as the poster is actually desparate to be accepted for a Halifax account!).

Thanks for that! BUT if you read my full posts you'll see when they accept me i'll then close it - its a principle thing but I hate em cos I have 2yr history and they wont give me crappy account but I have a much better one with HSBC - its annoying and doesn't make sense when a student with no history can get one...... In fact any1 but me can get one hahahahahahahahahahahah

No offense meant to students but you get my drift lol

  • I reccommend a Coop or Smile internet account. Say no to their premium account and you won't have any monthly charges. Their customer support is excellent and you can withdraw money in Post Offices. They are also ethical so your conscience will be clear.
I can't understand why they are not paying for ads at the moment to let people know.

Halifax's student account is actually one of the hardest to get. As you know, they did refuse my bf when he first applied. They did offer him a credit card though and a standard account which he ran for 6-7 months and now I have got him the student acount with £1000 OD. But he now has an immaculate credit history thanks to my help lol (he knows nothing about money) and no CIFAS marker, which I can imagine only helps, right?

I'd say halifax are good if you can get accepted for their reward account which will pay you £5 each month you pay £1000 in. But not so good if you are using an overdraft.

OP, I do not believe milford's experience is representative of how hard it is to get a halifax current account. i got one at 18 with no history (apart from my children's account) and he has over 60 (or is it 62 now?) credit searches in 12 months and a fraud marker on his file. Not the typical credit file, I'd say.
