I think my sister did it at a local radio station, and also with the police for a week.

Most big companies also have a scheme.

My friend's son did his at Sky Sports!

They contacted them and asked. The school were fine with it and Sky do so many of them a year apparantly.

He had to stay the week in London (his dad went with him) and had a great time!

When you say "about to", how close is it, because the best placements are usually arranged months in advance. There's really no point anyone suggesting anything without knowing where your daughter's career plans lie - we have no idea whether she's aiming for a career in catering or brain surgery!

I agree that it's better to have an idea of the industries she's most interested in... she might as well get something useful out of her work experience!

I work at an advertising agency and we have a scheme for school work experience placements. It's very good (if I do say so myself, because I run it!) and we really give kids an insight into our industry and get them to work on projects they can take away with them.

I did mine at a garage as a mechanic, was the funniest two weeks of my life.

Not very useful for what I want to do though, does you rdaughter have any idea what career she may want to follow in future?

  • i did mine at J17 magazine in London, it was amazing. I did organize it as soon as i was given the dates by the school though so i was months in advance. I also got letters back apologizing but they had no spaces left, so i kept sending them letters and finally i got one back saying yes! haha, they probably just got fed up of my letters, but pursaverance works and i had a great time. I did 2 other work experiances with school, one at a childrens nursery and another at a local radio station, for me the radio station was actuallym quite boring. I suppose that it depends what your daughter is interested in?

my eldest daughter did hers at the local newspaper, this led to her getting a part time job with the outdoors PR team, whom she has worked for for over 3 years, she has only just stopped working for them as she is at university.

but the work experience put her onto wanting to do a business managment course, she has worked in retail (next, build-a-bear) and has got a job with Eurocamp in france this summer.

so , your daughter really needs to think of what her likes/dislikes are
ie - its no point her doing work experience in a hairdressers, if she has no intention of becoming a hairdresser....
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

I am so jealous - I LOVED J17!! Did you pursue a career in journalism or was it simply because you loved the magazine too?! :rotfl:

I worked in a medical research lab in a university for mine. A schoolfriend worked at an archeological dig for a week.
