If you get anything over £547.50 in CTC, then you are entitled. The reason for this is that people with children and a high income (up to 50K) can be awarded the minimum award of £547.50 because of the way the awards are tapered.

The level at which the award becomes payable at a higher level than £547.50 is the level at which you are deemed to have a low enough income to need the maternity grant.

As long as thats Child Tax Credit (your award should tell you how much WTC and how much CTC you get), then you should get it

I saw nothing the budget from 2005 when I had a look and a google search is bringing up nothing.

The only social fund reference to £700 is for the funeral grant,

    Hi joannemc3

Although you have a high enough award to get a MG it is important for others reading this to know that they must get over £21 weekly from CTC to get it.

It also must be claimed within three months of the birth.
  • Call the jobcentre......they can confirm it!!!

    .
I didn't know that. I thought it was any award higher than the family element (or family element plus baby element if you already have a child under 1) that qualified people for the surestart maternity grant:confused:
