Need help quickish...what's a prerequisite?

Son is heading off to do an RGIT course in Aberdeen and in the bumph he has been given is a section entitled 'What To Bring'.

He needs to take 2 forms of identification and the form that is enclosed. That's fine.

Then there is this (in bold print)....'Please ensure you hold the correct valid prerequisite at course commencement and that you bring evidence of this on the first day of the course.

An incorrect prerequisite or an expired certificate could result in you not being able to complete the training.'

Neither of us has any clue what they're looking for and as it's 6.30pm on a Sunday night, he's not going to find out from work either.

Any ideas?

  • I would say its a "prerequisite" of joining the course that he brings the above ID?

edit maybe not cos it talks about an expired certificate, so presumably its a prerequisite of the course that he has some sort of certificate?

second edit maybe its for people who have already done the course that they have to bring their last certificate and that it must be within date?

The wording seems to imply it's for all, not just for previous peeps. It sounds very much as if it is some sort of certificate that's needed before he can start the course but he certainly hasn't got anything like that.

It's a course designed to train you in offshore safety. (Oil and Gas industry).

Son has just been on the phone to another lad who says he doesn't have anything either so I wonder if whatever is needed has already been faxed over by his work.

I've told him to phone me tomorrow if he really needs whatever it is and I'll go to his work and do the parental 'pick up and dispatch'. It's hours away though so I'm hoping I'll not need to.

:rotfl: True you often need to go beyond the call, hope he has everything already and you don't need to drive miles to sort it.;)

The wording on the form is a bit ambiguous isn't it?

Best of it is.....there's loads of small print on the back...in fact it looks exactly like the t's and c's you would get with a credit card, and I've gone through the lot.....the only mention is exactly the same wording that's written above, nothing else.

It would be too easy to explain wouldn't it.

It's probably a standard comment for anyone joining a course. If it was important, I would have expected it to be part of the application rather than the joining instructions.

If need be get his work to fax or email what ever over to the training centre. Even scan what ever in and email yourself.

    Good luck to your son.

What's the exact name of the course? Many of these courses stipulate prerequisites -sometimes only age but sometimes students have to have completed certain survival or safety courses. I know for many of the RGIT offshore courses the three day survival course is a prerequisite.

if you give the name of the course I'll try to find out...
