yes like leather furniture they use a chemical on it. it needs cleaning off with soapy water and then airing.
try a carpet shampoo job.
not sure if its harmful or not to kids and pets, but i wouldnt take any chances.Get some gorm.0 -

Think yourself lucky , I have just bought ( nearly 3 weeks ago ) a new bed .
Its got smell!!!. not offensive. but its certainly there. Its much better, than it was, but with this weather, leaving all the windows open , was not an option.
The Kids even objected to the smell from the new car , we must be a delicate lot.0 -
"New carpet" smell, which can be a bit unpleasant, can sometimes hang around for weeks. We had this with a good quality 80/20 wool/manmade HSL carpet a few years ago, we just kept leaving the windows open and it eventually went.
If you're not happy I would contact the supplier and ask his advice rather than thinking about shampooing a brand new carpet.0 -
yeah shampooing is not really a option dont think been looking around on net so many diffrent things people say to do like putting white vinegar in bowl with water and leaving it room ,plants , bicarb soda so many just aint got a clue0

surely a family member or friend has a vacuum shampooer you could borrow?
you wont leave that much water on it. the vacuum takes most of it away. the rest just dries out overnight.
thats what i would do anyways.Get some gorm.0 -
wish i did family live in london im in notts and friends dont have one lot of people have wooden floors now days so dont really have need for carpet cleaners0

Vinegar in water and plants will just give off a different smell, it wont remove the smell of the carpet. Bicarb can absorb smells but that's more for fridges.
Ventilation and time is what you need. Check this out, scroll down to New Carpet Smell.
I would check with your supplier if you're thinking of doing anything else in case you compromise any guarantee.0 -
I would not wash it, not yet anyway.
Try a bowl of Charcoal it absorbs odor.
But time is all it probably needs.0 -
is that charcoal in water ???0
