Has anyone successfully haggled with Elephant?

Reading the guide on how to get your car unsurance quote down and step 4 says to haggle. I am currently with Elephant and their renewal quote is £455. The cheapest quote i can find is with Admiral for £402. Given that Admiral own Elephant do you think there is any chance of haggling. I would phone and try but they have a national rate phone number and dont want to get nowhere and end up paying for the priveledge!!

Anyone ever managed to get a better quote than the renewal offer from Elephant?

I have had my isurance with Elephant over the last few years and they have always been the cheapest. Got a new quote today from their websit, and it seems cheaper than I normally pay!!! I never check renewal costs byy doing a new quote - now is the time to start though I would say. See if you can get a cheaper rate phone number from saynoto0870 and give it a try.
No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:

  • Either Admiral or Elephant always seem to be the cheapest for my brother and I. Their customer profile is apparently younger drivers in their 20s/30s. I'm with Admiral at the moment and just got a renewal quote for £407.00. I then applied online to Admiral as a new customer and was quoted £250.00 - what a cheek! When I phoned Admiral to cancel the £407.00 renewal quote, their call centre is now based in South Africa rather than Cardiff, so not surprising I couldn't find anything other than an 0870 number to call on!

I finally tried Elephant on their incredibly slooooow website and eventually got a quote for £243.00. I'm losing the will to live and am going to with that!

I think you'll find that Elephant might well match the quote from Admiral but I don't think they'll beat it by much and you'll be paying on an 0870 number for the privilege. Last night's call to South Africa was on a truly abysmal line!

(To save you bothering, I couldn't find any cashback sites that had Admiral or Elephant links).

    God, what a performance!

I was with elephant, and got a better offer from admiral (about £50ish)

Called elephant and told them if they can match it, I'll renew there and then

    They accepted.

elephant and admiral are both on there.....
  • I tried my details as a new quote and the price came in the same as my renewal so i cant save that way. I might give elephant a ring from work tomorrow so they foot the bill of the call.

As far as the other companies go no-one has come close. Direct line came closes but only if i excluded the business cover i needed. It just amazes me how you can get such a broad difference in quotes.
  • Can't believe Admiral and Elephant are both on saynoto 0870.com. I tried them yesterday and nothing showed up, although I think the title page looked a bit different when I tried!

Oh well, will keep the numbers on file for this time next year!

it's always best to look in the a-z rather than the search facility.
  • I phoned Elephant and they said they would beat the Admiral quote after checking it was like for like. So they knocked £55 off my renewal quote allowing me to renew for £400. This beat the best offer i could get online by £6.

Chatting to the girl in the call centre she all but stated that new customers get a better deal and that it is always worth getting a quote from both and comparing as they do have a price match facility as they are in effect the same company. It worked for me anyway!!

Just tried this but they wouldn't even entertain the suggestion of beating/matching Bell's quote (another of the admiral group) - even though it was only a £10 difference.
