OK, looks straightforward enough. I might give it a go, I know someone who did it, she complained of a lack of energy though! Do you find that?

    p.s. what are oopsies?

    Thanks.

they are an egg and cream cheese concoction that makes flat rolls - search the low carb thread and you'll get the recipe ;)

i have more energy than ever before. caffeine free for 13 months and i used to live on red bull ;)

I don't drink tea, coffee, fizzy drinks or anything, but my downfall is SUGAR. I need to cut it out, I really do.

Must search for the oopsies, they sound good!!

I attended Slimming World and as long as you stick to the diet you can loose lots of weight. I gave up as I felt I could do it on my own - but am failing. Having the weekly support of others definitely helps. Also you can actually eat everything you like - only somethings you do have to count as 'syns' and are allowed only a certain amount of syns per week. You can also access info online.
I recently read something about low carb diets eg Atkins can affect long term memory. But like many things one 'expert' will say one thing while another gives the totally opposite point of view.
My one recommendation is to make sure what ever diet you do, have some support either in a group or with other like minded people and be regularly accountable to them!

What I'm after is a way of losing weight that I will be able to stick to and won't mean I have to cook seperate meals for myself and my husband. Nothing to "faddy" if you see what I mean! I have started regular exercise again, which is going to help, but I was wondering if anyone had any recomendations for me?

    Thanks in advance :D

Just what I looked for in a diet... something we could all do together - me (2 stone overweight) , not paricularly overweight hubby, 6yo daughter who happens to have her diet controlled by the joy that is type 1 diabetes.. In other words we wanted one meal for us all, based on healthy 'normal' food choices.

After DD was born, we tried WW and did very well (I lost 3 stone in a relatively short period), but ultimately once I lost the weight, it was very easy to put it on again - we didn't learn anything that would change our habits in the long term.

As you will see from my sig, I joined SW last year, from day 1, the whole family have eaten the food together - it is based on the premis of regular healthy meals, with plenty of fruit and veg, opting for days predominatly focussing on either meat or carbs (if you eat meat of course!). Now at target, I am finding it (fairly) easy to maintain my weight.. only time will tell

It teaches you moderation - some things are limited (called syns, and given a daily allowance) - some things are unlimited (mainly fruit, veg, eggs, tofu, very low fat dairy, diet drinks) and you choose days for unlimited lean meat/fish (red days) or unlimited carbs (green days).

You can attend class, which attracts a weekly meeting fee, or you can join (£10 ish) get all the information, then leave and go it alone (or join one of many online support networks - there is one here on MSE).

angie loves veg, thanks for the lowdown on SW. So is this basically the way it works:
    • limited number of 'syns' (fatty/sugary foods)
    • unlimited fruit, veg etc
    • don't mix carbs and protein on the same day
The red/green day thing is the most fascinating IMHO, is that how it works?

leed, I agree about the support network thing, I post on the half-stone challenge thread here, and I have to say it has kept me on the straight and narrow more than if I were doing it alone!!

BEWARE! I was badly ripped off by SureSlim.

I was given the slick sales patter that convinced me to part with the £450 joining fee - I could kick myself. I was sent for a blood test and had 1 appointment with the SureSlim consultant. 1 week later I found out I was pregnant - a total, joyous surprise. My midwife advised that it would be dangerous to follow a restrictive diet when pregnant, so I had to stop before I even started. Now I've had the baby and want to lose my baby weight, they want another £150 to restart the programme and won't give a refund if I want to leave. With a newborn baby and on maternity leave I can hardly afford to shell out more money. They have taken advantage of me and I'm so upset. My advice - DON'T DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY. If you must join a formal weight-loss programme, choose something flexible and cheap.

What did they say at the beginning when you told them you were pregnant. Did you not agree as to what you would do once the baby came along. Shame that things couldnt have been done more amicably.

I have to say that I have had fantastic treatment at my clinic and the diet certainly works but maybe like all things each clinic is different.

I needed the formalness to make me keep going and keep motivated.

    Hi Tara.

It isn't exactly 'not mixing proteins and carbs', instead (for example on a red day) you could have unlimited protein eaten with limited carbs.

If you would like some (detailed) info on the SW plan, pop along to the 'Slimming world support thread' On page 1, post 3, there is a long post (by me) which tells you nearly everything you need to know about SW.

any further questions, feel free ask or message me. :D
