    i'm veggie.

used to live on pasta, spuds and bread.

lost 3 stone in the past year and really enjoyed it.

at least give it a read ;)

(i've done WW before and hated it)

How on earth do you do low carb if you're a veggie? I'm almost veggie (haha) and would try low carb except don't want to eat huge amounts of meat!

    Thanks in advance!

  • OK the theory goes that if your BMR is 1506, whatever you do, don't eat more than 1506 calories in a day.

That way, if for any reason you can't exercise or even get out of bed, you won't put on weight.

I think, most people could easy burn an extra 500 calories per day by walking around, doing housework, walking around office/shops etc...

It's basically one calorie extra burned per minute for about 10 hours a day.

That should help you lose 1 pound per week, without additional exercise.

If you can do exercise too, realistically you need to expend 3500 calories to burn 1 pound of fat. Over seven days that would be 500 calories per day.
Most ppl can't commit to the gym seven days a week, so aimed to burn an extra 1750 calories per week (or half a pound). That would be 437.5 calories per session if you went to the gym 4 times a week.

Only 1570 calories a day. No wonder I'm hardly losing any weight on my SW Extra Easy plan ,

I was planning on starting this, does it not work:confused:

Because low carbing isn't about eating lots of protein/meat ;)

Bulk of my diet is veg and salad, and I have plenty of cheese, eggs, and some fish with it ;)

tinkerbell84, I would be very interested in trying low carb. Can you point me in the direction of any good low carb/veggie recipe sites? Also, what vegetables/fruits are you not supposed to eat on low carb diets? I can only think of potatoes and bananas but there must be others.

    Thanks.

Okay, do not start this kind of diet until you completely understand it.

Come over to the low carb thread (there's loads of recipes) and check out the different diets. it's worth spending a couple of weeks reading up on the plan you choose and getting ready to start it.

To answer you directly, its basically no fruit at all in phase 1, and no starchy or sweet veg. So no potatoes, parsnips, peas, carrots, sweet potato, sugarsnap peas, sweetcorn, no red or yellow peppers, limited onion, not too much tomato............

Green leafy veg is good, and stir fries, and you can use cauliflower to make mash and rice.

 Wow, I am amazed at the list of veg that is not allowed in the induction phase!

Can you make bread with (e.g.) rice flour or do you have to abandon the stuff completely? I wouldn't mind really, but just checking.

What did you eat in the induction phase?

Sorry for all the questions. I will check out the low carb thread. Thanks again.

OK, looks straightforward enough. I might give it a go, I know someone who did it, she complained of a lack of energy though! Do you find that?

    p.s. what are oopsies?

    Thanks.

On reflection, maybe I would be more suited to a GI Plan - omitting high GI and refined carbs such as sugar, white bread, pasta etc but still eating slow-release carbs (and smaller quantities of carbs generally e.g. having veg in place of rice or pasta in various dishes). Hmmm...
