Hey, I'll be the first. I aint embarrased to admit it.

At current house prices, about 5% of what I will need to "step up" out of my new build box. I work every hour god sends me, and I'm trying, but hey ho.

can i ask how many of you are ftb, or str (i know pastures new is)? or had sizeable inheritance etc?

of current house prices here we have about 4/5% :o - so hoping for house prices to drop a lot further!

all our ftb friends who have bought over the last 3 yrs have had 5 or 10%, with one exception who put down 20% from inheritence.

I currently have 20% of what I'd like to spend. Though I'm happy to spend more, or less, depending what's on offer at the time, and equally I'm in no rush so hopefully will have saved more by then too...
Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!

I have 110k, plan is to get to 150k by the end of the year, but going by current prices, even 150k would only be 50% in my area (Canary Wharf), its a pity prices are not falling as much as one would expect in my neck of the woods...

Well still living in my modest house with enough on the side at say 75% deposit on a couple of btl flats but I don`t fancy that idea. Having said that where do you put your savings right now???? In my many years on this planet I cannot remember a time when all assets went south at the same time.

I am FTB and have about 25% of what I would LIKE to spend on a property. Probably have about 20% of what I'll actually spend though.

    .

STR recently, but it was s'posed to be middle of last year! Also inherited. Didn't save much, except in pensions & insurances, while killing-off last mortgage. Never high earners.

    >Maybe if the government would just let prices come down to a sane level instead of trying to prop them up there would be a lot of money coming out of 'parking' and into the economy.

Your assumption is that a fair value for a house is the one found by the market during a credit crunch i.e. when the market is starved of capital. In fact, the house is at that point under valued imho, because as soon as credit is restored prices will rise.

So the government isn't really trying to prop up house prices it's just trying to restore credit. Once credit is restored market demand raises houseprices.
