I would contact the police quoting the crime number and ask when THEY are going to view the cctv footage to check it,and keep onto them. The Arndale won't let you view it,and I think it's unlikely they will view it unless asked by the police.

Yes, have just finished composing a letter with my contents to send to the police, as when I phoned to report it they did not take a list of the things missing, just that it was a burgundy DKNY bag. I did receive an email from the crime desk and there is an email address to write to at the crime input bureau so I will email it there.

I will also ask them to view the camera, although the person I spoke to on the phone asked me about the cameras and which they viewed, I could only tell him what the security person had told me, I got the impression they were not going to be looking at it, and am kicking myself for not pushing it further at the time. But you are right, I will have to ask in writing that they look at the footage.
In the meantime, I've searched the net for anything matching my handbag and liberty wallet, as they were both pretty unique and a few years old now. Have not seen anyone with the same in Manchester.

I like to think that the police are doing something, but unfortunately I feel I will have to do the investigating myself, am starting with the local pubs and every single shop in the mall as of today.
Luckily, when looking for a bargain in the local tesco, I get chatting with a fellow bargain hunter who also happens to be in charge of the walkie talkie radio that the security in the centre have, so will be asking his advice too on my next shop.
Thanks for advice, it all helps very much.:kisses3:
  • Sorry to hear about your bag getting stolen I live near Wigan and come to Manchester most weekends I use to carry a handbag with me but I no longer to I tend to put it all in my pockets my phone, purse, car keys ect ect the risk is less of getting it stolen then.

I hope you get your stuff back soon if not all of it then some of it.

Sorry to hear about you bag being stolen. I've had a bag stolen before, well after I left it in a taxi! It had uni notes and library books in (which cost a lot).

Recently I've had my ipod stolen (I'm pretty sure). I was out on the tube and on buses, and wasn't listening to it as I was with a date. Somebody must have nicked it out of my pocket, especially if a wire was visible. My brother reckoned I'd dropped it outside the house, but I couldn't even look as this was the terrible snowy Monday! That's my 2nd ipod that's been nicked now (first one from my house, where someone had a key!)

I hope you find the idiot who stole your handbag. Tip: Next time wrap your legs around the bag! They don't target people who seem to be more cautious like this.

I am talking from experience-not from a text book.
What the law says, then the loop holes and practical difficulties are 2 different things.
Also ,I think the OP is not going to be featured in the bits of footage she wants to look at,so she has no legal right to request it.

When I came up to Manchester as a student in 1983 our departmental technician told me always to wear a handbag across my body rather than on my shoulder, have the zip tag nearest to me and watch out particularly at bus stops. One person shoves into you from behind while an accomplice distracts the driver - they both get off -wrong bus- and away they go with your wallet. A friend lost her handbag from under her chair in a pub in south Manchester. A man, suited and booted, stopped behind her to do up his shoelace - undoubtedly it was him. My work colleague lost her handbag last week while there was an open day on so loads of people about. I think I saw the person who pinched it as she just didn't look "right" and I certainly didn't recognise her. These people are quick, efficient and above all, confident.
