I had a truly horrible day yesterday. Am not sure if this is the place to rant about this....
I met up with my friend for a coffee at Costas in the Arndale in Manchester, a small treat which is limited to once a month since losing work, had a lovely chat, went to get my reading book out of my one and only luxury DKNY handbag (all the others are from Primark and H and M), to find it was missing. And I watch the "real hustle" and like to think I'm pretty savvy when it comes to watching out for my personal property! I had taken money out for rent that afternoon, bought my OH's Valentine gift, with cash, all my cards, cinema vouchers, including my mother's cancer care notes were in there, my diary, house keys, pictures, make-up, a letter with my home address on...you get the picture, half my life along with some sweets that cannot be replaced had gone!
I'm devastated. The security were kind, the police gave me a crime number. Spent the evening checking the toilet bins, street cleaners, security in various shops that were still open to see if at least my keys had been handed in. Went to Police station to see if anything had been handed in, but it seems they are not interested and I felt they had written it off. I like to think that people like myself are out there and would hand in keys and personal items to the nearest station if they found it. I'm going to do my own investigation once I've bought some new locks for the front door today. Sorry to rant, just trying to come to terms with what has happened, funny thing today was when I went back to the coffee shop just incase, someone had left an expensive pair of sunglasses behind on a sofa, which I spotted and handed in....such is life sometimes
So please please be extra vigilant and take care as you go about your day, as these are hard times, but the thieves tend to forget that we are all feeling it pretty bad. They don't just take your money they take memories and a bit of confidence too.

Fruitcake you can probably claim the cost of the new locks and their fitting on your home insurance. If you have cover away from home you could probably also claim for this and possibly any cash.
Give your insurers a ring0 -
So sorry for you horrible experience.
I have read recently that luxury or designer-type handbags are being targeted in their own right too,not just for the contents.0 -
I think hallydays is correct, if its got value keep an eye on ebay for it0

((Fruitcake)) I feel your pain! DD had her bag stolen, also Manchester, and for ages afterwards there were things that cropped up - like no id coz no driving licence (replacement £25:mad: - dvla thieving gits). Her bag was found in the gents - minus valuables. Narrows down the gender of the thief a bit;)
Not a nice experience, and you are right about losing more than people might realise.0 -

Not Necessarily, a woman may have nicked the bag and given it to a male to empty . . . .0 -
thanks dacouch, Am banging my head about not renewing my insurance in December, hard lesson to learn. am really sorry to hear about your DD's things too andyrules, you got me thinking too, I did ask two guys sitting where I had first been if they had seen anything and really really wanted to look in their oversized bag as they scurried away....probably because I looked like I wanted to cry not because they had actually got it!!
I have been keeping an eye on ebay, don't know what I would do if I saw it there! Would ask if they could return my paper items!! What d'ya reckon my chances are?
Have changed one lock and am going to do the other ones tomorrow, am totally exhausted!
Thanks for the kindness x Lots of :A's here x0 -

Well, I did use the smiley wink on that comment - but a bloke emptying it is a thief as well;);)0 -

Don't kick yourself too much, in reality, most policies cover little more than locks in these cases, unless you have extra all risks - even then they aren't great.
i would keep an eye on ebay, if you see a similar bag and it's in your area - then post on the ebay board for advice.
i hate these greedy thieves - watching them get caught and handcuffed on the street camera/cop reality programmes is slightly enjoyable though;):D0
