To add a second Sky box its necessary to have a Quad LNB, its then possible to wire an extra feed using satellite grade coax and the appropriate F connectors.
Most ordinary Sky installations will only have a single LNB but the good news is they are fairly cheap and easy to replace, assuming you like climbing ladders.

Quad LNB and Cable kit found on Ebay

Not my advert, if I was looking I'd probable try Satcure.
  • ok, I'm thinking of getting Sky and am a complete technophobe so please excuse my denseness. I live in a council flat and we're due to have our aerial upgraded shortly so it's ready for the digital switchover. When the council wrote to us they said that would mean we could get sky in the future without needing a dish. If that's the case, is it worth me waiting til then, and would I be able to buy a sky box and install it myself rather than paying for them to install it?

edited to add: according to the letter from the council we are being installed with an Integrated Reception System, whatever that is.
  • No, the aerial being replaced by your councl is for freeview systems "over the air". A better quality one the same you use for your terestial tv right now.

The thread here is relating to having a dish bolted to the side of your house.

An intergrated reception system can combine multiple services, FM radio, terrestrial and Satellite TV.
