cleaning deep fat fryer

  • My deep fat fryer lives in my back porch so I didn't get too much mess from it in my tiny kitchen.
I haven't used it for months and when I looked at it, the outside and inside was awful, sticky and dirty,
Any advice on the best way of cleaning it, it's really bad, I nearly threw it away!

    Hi Happy Bunny,

We have an older thread that might help you so I'll merge your thread with it as it helps to keep all the suggestions together.

Ah, I knew I'd read it somewhere....
Found this via the vinegar sticky

Vinegar is an excellent grease cutter. In college cafeterias we boil out our fry vats every week with vinegar and water. Very cost effective and very safe-no harsh chemicals, no risk of fire. We also use straight vinegar to clean the grill hoods. Again, very inexpensive and does a fantastic job.

I use oven chips now because I hate the smell of deep fat fryers.
I did buy a good (tefal) one that you could put everything except the element in the dishwasher.
Or the best thing, buy a really cheap one from argos, change the oil, but don't clean it properly & just buy a new cheap one every 6 months.
  • Now I've discovered other people give in and throw them away, I've just done that!
Wow, That feels so good, not looking at it sat there!

    Thanks guys

i have one but haven't used it for months now, maybe nearly a year can't rememeber it been so long. but years ago when i first had one ( about 5/6 years ) i bought some tables from kleeneze . worked a treat , but the smell was horrible. so from that point one , i always made myself , empty the oli after each use and , filtre it and store it for next time. and after each use i would clean it , so it didn't get a build up of grease deposit's. but i found the best way to clean if heavy in grease ad grim is elbow grease , warm water and washing up liquid , with a bit of sugar in , which made the washing up liquid grainey hich really helped.

    Slightly off topic
Not meaning to be piccy ,but 'good ole George' who sells his healthy living grill pan doesn't look particularly lean does he .Perhaps he doesn't use his own product ,he always looks a bit of a chunky chap to me ,or are my eyes going:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I'm in a funny mood this morning ,must be too many mince pies and overdosing on Christmas
