Thinking of switching

I'm with Virgin Media atm and am thinking of going else where probably O2, but have a problem.
I have a BT landline but its not activated. I rang BT and they said it cost £120 to activate it. £120 for a guy to come out open the exchange and flip a switch!
O2 can't provide phone/broadband unless you have a BT landline. So thats the line rental activation fee and O2's bill I have to pay which makes it not worth even considering.
My question is are there any providers that can provide phone and broadband who don't rely on BT?

That charge is usually waived if the line is physically there already and in good order. If you are signing up to 12m line rental then they may not charge you (or I think they may make an initial charge and then credit it back over the first few months). I would check with them again stressing that the line is there and will need no work doing except at the exchange.
Your only alternative to BT is Virgin cable-but you are already on that...No free lunch, and no free laptop

If you do make the switch to BT for your land line make shure they don't tag the line with their own expensive BB. O2 BB is great value by the way.0

Ask BT again.
I moved in my flat with a BT phone socket and I spoke to 3 people before I
convinced them I already had a line box!!!
I am now with Tiscali who activated my line after a bit of fuss, as I ceased connection months before. They gave me my old phone number.0 -
