Abbey Taking Cc Cards Back From Mbna!!!!

I have recieved information today that Santander are setting in motion the move of 1.2 million credit card accounts from MBNA BACK to Abbey.

Abbey will be in the near future managing their own cards again in an attempt by Santander to maximize CC facilities to their some 6 million customers..

So as not to affect current customer service levels and demands this will be roled out within the next 12-24 months...

I wonder if Abbey will be continuing with the MBNA management style or will they be rolling out new offers to entice customers?

cant wait to see!

Interesting. The more the merrier. More credit card providers equals more competition equals better deals for the customer.

    Ooo this is interesting news!!

I have an account with Abbey, ran perfectly well with overdraft...never go over etc..I applied for a CC and got refused...maybe if Abbey have 'total' control they may be more 'flexible' with existing customers with whom they have a history with ;):)

Yes that is what their aim is! existing customers of other Abbey products no doubt will be given special introductory offers!

Previously Abbey didnt have the means to manage their CC business which is why they outsourced to MBNA but now that Santander has taken over they obviously feel that with their existing customers they are competition for other CC companies..

Wonder what this will mean for the stoozers though...

  • My card was changed from mbna back to abbey about a month ago,
along with an interest rate increase from 14.9% to 19.9%.
The explanation was that abbey are free to do this whenever they like now they are administering the accounts.
  • Abbey may have taken their clientbase from MBNA, but someone forgot to switch off the "re-direct to MBNA" button on their phone lines! It's been a year since the changeover, and yet Abbey customers are still being passed to MBNA first before being re-routed to Abbey. Come on, Abbey, get your act together!!

I find it's the other way round. The Abbey MBNA cards still have the former Abbey Credit Card customer service number on them, which is now Abbey Banking Customer Services. We have to then put them through to MBNA. I do get the odd call from MBNA for our own customers but not as often.

Did you apply for a new Abbey card to replace the MBNA one??? I doubt we'd change your interest rate so soon after joining. Our lowest standard rate is also 15.9%.

From what I've heard, Abbey MBNA customers are starting to get new cards reissued without the Abbey branding, to make it clear MBNA run the card now, not Abbey.

God help Alliance and Leicester customers, they are in for a shock.
Abbey credit card customer services in Milton Keynes are the worst I have come across, apart from B. Gas. They drowned under the card issue last September and are still struggling. The IT is dreadful, Abbey Branches still have no access to card accounts, other than to accept payments.
A web account just gives account details, but has NO PAYMENT METHOD for non-Abbey bank account holders.

AND the worst example of their IT incompetence is as DestroyingAngel says. The customer telephone in Abbey branches button for Credit Card Queries, puts you through to MBNA in Chester who then have to re direct you back to Abbey in MK
So parts of Abbey are still unaware of what was policy over a year ago.:rolleyes2:rolleyes2

They certainly won't be able to transfer to and from Abbey credit cards soon! Mind you MBNA run their cards anyway so it's gone full circle a bit.

As far as I know they can access pretty much all of the system as ourselves. I've seen it for myself. Whether they can do a lot I'm not sure, but they certainly seem to know where to look for things on the Abbey Credit Card databases.

    No bank giro info?

Can't comment on that. We get customers who call us up from branch who get straight through by the branch button though. Luck of the Irish maybe? I do wish MBNA would give customers their phone number though as some still keep coming through via the old Abbey credit card customer service number.

    They cannot access account details

    .
NO ,facility not thought necessary? The only card I know of that does not have a genral online payment facility.(e.g. via debit card)
I spent 6 months trying to get online access to ensure I did not break 0% BT conditions. Got it a week before the 0% ended and still had to pay in at an Abbey branch
