UPS delivered parcel to neighbour + stolen

I sent my Xbox 360 for repair at Microsoft. I was told it would take about 3 weeks so I sent a day before going on a 2 week holiday.
While on holiday I had a couple of missed calls. On returning today I saw the package was delivered to my neighbour on 2nd Feb (much quicker than I expected). I had a card in my letterbox confirming this. Online it say delivered on the 2nd.
I knocked on after 6pm to be told they had taken it in but someone (40 year old male who looked like a delivery guy) had picked it up 3-4 days after they had taken it.
I phoned the UPS delivery guy on the number left on my phone (may have even been his own number). He said he had delivered it and that no one would have picked it back up unless requested. I phoned UPS who said to call micsrosoft. I did and they are investigating and will contact me in the next week.
I was going to call citizens advice tomorrow to see where I stand and am not sure if I need to call the police.
Who is resposible for this? I think they must have taken it as nobody else but the delivery driver knew about it and he would probably have thought I had got it that evening as he wouldn't have known I was away. I stupidly told them I had been on holiday till today (I'm hoping they forget). I am worried that they may now try to change their story if I call the police and say they gave it to me. If so I was hoping they stupidly said they gave it me when they got it. My passport could proove this a lie if they did but now they know I was away.

How well do you know your neighbour?0

I don't know the neighbours at all.
I just went down (live in a flat) to speak again. Maybe I shouldn't have. Asked for more details on who picked it up. I explained it was a bit strange some random person who couldn't possibly know about package would come to collect it. I said the company who sent it was contacting the police to investigate.
The guy would not look me in the face and kept staring at the floor. I'm pretty sure they have nicked it. Now I am wondering if they may have it inside and will now get rid.0 -
Did they sign for the parcel0

Did they sign for the parcel
I would think so but am not sure. The online delivery has the correct name. They admit receiveing it.
There is no mention of a signature though and when I hover over delivered a pop up comes up saying about residential deliveries that do not require a signature may be left in a safe place etc etc. I don't know if this is just a standard pop up though.

Is your neighbour a bit dim? Seems bizarre that he would nick it knowing he's signed for it!!
.... however, for what it's worth, I think your claim would be with UPS for failing to safely deliver it. I imagine they have insurance to deal with this scenario.0 -
I'm not sure why the neighbours would be so thick as to sign for it and then nick it. They didn't seem the sharpest tools in the box.
I can only think they may have held onto it for a while and when I didn't go to collect it (he said he also knocked on my door) thought maybe I had moved or didn't know about it or something. I once held a parcel for a neighbour for over 2 weeks. I rang his intercom several times with no reply. I was getting ready to call the delivery company to return it when I spotted him coming out one day. He had been away for a while and had not received a card for it. I had began to think he had moved as people do quite regularly here. Funny enough my GF had joked about nicking it. It was a joke tho.
Their story tho is also a joke. Why would some random person turn up to collect it. Nobody else but them, me and the delivery guy knew about it. I can pretty much rule out the delivery guy for the reasons mentioned above. How would he know I hadn't collected it off them?
If it looks like a duck, swims like duck and quacks like a duck... it's a duck.
The most obvious answer is they have nicked it. It would have had microsofts address on the box so could be seen to be of potential value.
I can't believe the delivery guy was so stupid as to leave it with someone else.
I can't claim from UPS. Microsoft is their customer so it has to be them. I am going to contact citizens advice tomorrow and call the local police. At least I may give them a bit of stress by being investigated. I doubt the police will do much tho.0 -
sorry for whats happened to you
my son xbox was delivered by ups the same as yours and very quick within 10 days
i remember very good that i did sign it, twice, when they collect it and when they brought it back to me
they never leave a parcel without signature on their electronic device
i hope you find it againA rule of the universe is, the more you give, the more you get0 -
Have ur bins been emptied since the delivery, you never know the wrapping might be in there. I think mine came in plan wrapping and a plane box...0

name and shame the neighbour lol
or atleast the address so we can all send nice 'give the xbox back ya thief' letters0 -
The annoying thing is I was going to have it collected from and delivered to work as I was worried about something like this knowing I was going away. When I signed up for the repair it gave 3 possible methods to send you the labels one of which was by post. As I didn't know which it would be and wanted the labels asap I used my home address.
In the end they e-mailed the label and I printed it out. If I had used my work address it would not have got taken.
I am about to place an online order for something else and am now worried as to which address to use. Most of the time it has to be your billing address anyway.
Cheers for all the support!
Hey what happened to the baseball bat comment?
EDIT: Gonna rummage through the bins tomorrow if they have not been emptied. I read microsoft used your own packaging to return the console hence I was very careful to wrap it up + it was distinctive. Is it true they return it in different packaging? If so what colour is the wrapping and would it be obvious?0
