BANK CHARGES: The 6 year statute of limitations rule - exceptions??

Ok so I've searched for this throughout this forum thread and I am still non the wiser!!
I had an RBS account from 1991-2000. In 2000 I get so !!!!ed off with charges I kept getting hit with I closed the account and opened an internet bank account!!
I have hard copies of statements for the account (YES ALL!!) - they were nice enough to supply me with folders for this purpose (only cost me like £500.00 in charges :rotfl:). To cut a long story short I ran into some financial problems and had a lot of "service charges" slapped on my account towards the end of my period of banking with RBS. I was not aware about these charges being unjust or that I had the right to claim them back. In fact at the time I had problems with Chronic Fatigue/M.E. and was getting into severe hardship with having to buy expensive supplements etc. (to enable me to hold down a job with quite physically demanding shift work).
So is it worth me going through these statements and totting up what RBS owe me and reminding them?? :j Or is the year <2000 going back too far and I will just get the brush off?? :embarasse What about special circumstances of not being well at the time (my medical records would show I had a lot of hospital tests at the time)??
Bob
PS Thanks Martin for the advice about C/card companies I have just written off to MBNA, RBS and the Co-op banks to try and wangle some money out of them...!!

It's not impossible, but much more difficult than the standard Reclaim procedure. Have a look at this thread for some previous discussion:
