I might just get the number 7! Stops right outside the hotel! Really give my mum something to whinge about!!! Lol! Might suggest that in the hope that she realises the cab might be good idea! Lol! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
  • There are companys that do white hackneys that are cheaper than traditional wedding cars but a bit more "wedding" as they're white?

I always think people shouldn't complain unless they are paying for something themselves.

My mum asked for 2 extra people to be invited for the meal, since she is contributing to half the cost I didn't have a problem. If I was forking out the £40 each for them I would have said no.

Nat - if you are happy with that, then it's up to you. If your mum has a problem maybe she coudl hire a car herself lol.

Just a thought - how about a private hire taxi? You could always stick a ribbon over it and call it the 'fun element' to your wedding

People get fussy about things not being done 'traditionally' - make your own traditions :)

  • we got a few quotes from car companies but didnt want to pay that much so i we were having our ceremony and reception in the same hotel we decided it would be cheaper for me to saty at the hotel the night before the wedding and get ready there.
The bridesmaids came in a friends car and my hubby and best man drove them selves to the hotel.

  • I was going to use a white hackney cab. I got in touch with the council and they gave me the details for the taxi owners but my friend had an idea.....

My friend's Dad works at a Funeral home and he dressed one of their stretch limo's for me - flowers, ribbon and little bells and horseshoes etc He even wore his chaffeur outfit. It sounds a bit wierd but it was fab. Very MSE as it was a gift :) I travelled up with my Dad and my 2 bridesmaids too so cut costs with another car.

I thought you were going to say it was a hearse, lol :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Now that would have been quirky. Not quite sure where you would have sat though!

We're using black cabs. We were going to go for metered ones as it would only cost about £15-20 per cab but my sis is Reception Manager at a london hotel and so has asked her contact who has a firm of cabs to do it and they've said yes. The best bit is I think they are doing it for free!!

If your mum feels strongly enough, then could she pay for them? If not, tell her how much a 'traditional' wedding car would cost (circa £300 +) and see what she says to that!

  • We hired an old fashioned double decker bus it was great, everyone got on we had a riot, it also meant everyone could have a drink without worrying.

    Hi all!

We are getting married on a budget and are basically paying for it all ourselves which is going to take a lot of corner cutting, extra shifts and cut backs!

We are getting married in the same venue as our reception so I would only require transport to the hotel from either my house or my mums. I also have 3 bridesmaids, 1 flowergirls and 2 page boys to transport as well.

I had thought about using black (hackney) cabs to get us there as a cheap alternative to hiring wedding cars but my mother (who is already in the huff that we are not getting married in a church) recolied in horror asking "and what's that all about????" to which I replied "it's about SAVING MONEY!!!!!!"

Is this a naff idea? Does anyone have anyother ideas? How much did you/are you paying for your wedding cars?

As always, any input would be appreciated.

I agree with everyone else its your day and if your happy to go by a taxi why not?! We got our car at a discounted price coz we only need the one trip and we have got a 7seater daimler for £200 instead of £450 as he is doing it inbetween 2 other weddings so he has done us a deal.
