Wedding Cars

Hi all!
We are getting married on a budget and are basically paying for it all ourselves which is going to take a lot of corner cutting, extra shifts and cut backs!
We are getting married in the same venue as our reception so I would only require transport to the hotel from either my house or my mums. I also have 3 bridesmaids, 1 flowergirls and 2 page boys to transport as well.
I had thought about using black (hackney) cabs to get us there as a cheap alternative to hiring wedding cars but my mother (who is already in the huff that we are not getting married in a church) recolied in horror asking "and what's that all about????" to which I replied "it's about SAVING MONEY!!!!!!"
Is this a naff idea? Does anyone have anyother ideas? How much did you/are you paying for your wedding cars?
As always, any input would be appreciated.

You're getting married - not your mum. Have a nice day, whatever you decide to be driven in

It may be a naff idea but I'm going for the taxi option as well. The only people who are disappointed are my little brothers who fancied a ride in a fancy car. I don't really see the point in paying loads of money for a posh car, only we would see it as the ceremony and reception are in one venue. It was a no-brainer for us when it came to cutting costs.Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

We went for something even cheaper - we asked people with nice cars to drive us as a favour

Enjoy your day girls and remember it will be the fastest day of your lives - don't know where you live but if I could assist I would as a favour:j I belong to Mike's Mob :j0

I guess it depends how much you (not your mum!) cares about car. I'm not that into cars so I really don't mind. I quite like the shape of hackney cabs anyway and they might perhaps accomodate a dress easier too (though be carefully of marking it if the floor is dirty when you sit down).0

We were going the Taxi route too as not getting married in a church..
Everyone has to be seated 15 minutes before at our place so there isnt really the same "arrival of the bride"..
Then at a wedding fair we signed up to a bridal car place that kept bombarding us with discounts until we got 2 Bentley GTs doing enough runs to transport 10 people (getting married quite close though) for £300..
It might sound like a lot, but its quite cheap for the time we are getting and has put a HUGE smile on the WTB face..0 -
Snap!
I don't mind taking a taxi in the slightest, and in fact I view it as a luxury these days anyway, but my mum thinks people will talk about it (1. why would they? and 2. why should I care if they're that petty?!) and wants me to take a 'proper' car.
I told her I didn't have time to find a cheap one, so she started to look. Now she's horrified too! Options I'm considering are;
1. Executive taxi - more than normal, less than a posh car (if you have black cabs in your area I think this is a good option)
2. Befriending a posh car driver (not easy in a city when all my mates are hippies!)
3. Saying sodya to my mum and going in whatever I feel like! (possibility of ww3 with this option though)
4. Trying to convince her that if it's so important, she can pay for it.When we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that's present....we experience heaven on earth. Sarah Ban Breathnach0 -
Do what you want Nat.
We are having the whole day and night in one venue and are just travelling in our normal cars and getting ready at the venue.0
