Hello, I am using Internet Explorer and the history keeps deleting itself, or maybe I have done something to it but whatever, I can't work out what to do. I went into Tools, and clicked the box for the history to be retained for 20 days and then closed down and kicked it back up but its still deleting everything and its such a bind having to keep typing it all back in.

Any ideas what I should do?

I don't have an answer for you, sorry, just letting you know that exactly the same happens to me. My history is also set for 20 days, I use vista and IE 7.

I think you need to refer back to TomsMom and click Apply then OK. Not just OK.
But if you only use a dozen or so websites, it's much easier to save them them as Favourites or Bookmarks (in Internet Explorer or Firefox respectively).

In Internet Options on the page with the Temporary internet files and history settings you can only click OK. Then it takes you back to the Internet Options page where you can only click OK as Apply isn't highlighted and it won't let you click it.

If you regularly run CCLEANER or similar, it auto deletes the history by default

If you change the number of days from what is set to a different number, e.g. from 7 to 10, then the act of changing the days will activate the APPLY button - it changes from greyed out to black - and then you can click it. That's what happens on mine.

I changed the number of days to keep in my history, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. It highlights in blue, then when I change it, it doesn't seem to make any difference.

OK, I've just gone through it with mine. The OK and CANCEL buttons have a blue line around them and the writing is in black. The APPLY button is greyed out. These buttons are at the bottom of the Internet Options box.

I changed the number of days from 7 to 8, the number is highlighted blue. Because I changed it the APPLY button in the bottom right hand corner becomes active.

When you change the number of days does the APPLY button become active so that you can click it (it will have a blue line round it and black writing like the other two buttons)? If it does, click APPLY then click OK.

If not then I think yours must be different to mine. I think I may have Internet Explorer 6 (I know Outlook Express is 6) and as I said I have XP, so anything above that I wouldn't know if it's different.

yes, just checked it and I don't have an apply button, greyed or or not! must be running a different version of IE.

Thanks for all your input though, I must say that this is THE best site for help. I just need to wean myself off it because I spend so much time on here! It's my first port of call for anything now!
