Which insurers are known for paying up and quickly?

Options
Hi
How do we find out which insurers are good and quick at dealing with, and paying up on policies?
I want to get insurance for my hubby to go to USA for 15 days. I dont mind paying for it, as long as its a good one, and they wont mess me about if it does arise that we need to make a claim. Id rather be safe than sorry.
Thanks

Very good info here for Florida, so I would imagine most of it would be appropriate advice for other areas of the USA too.

Would disagree about Swiftcover...search the forum for evidence.

I find Fortis are good, any of the Axa underwritten policies can be a bit hit and miss

I have had a Fortis worldwide annual policy for several years now. I needed to make a small claim on one occasion following a trip to the hotel doctor. I sent in the paperwork and received a cheque for the treatment (minus the excess) very quickly.

I'm a broker and can chose from lots of different companies and I always take cover with Fortis its one of the things they are very good at. Their prices are reasonable, not normally the cheapest but if you have ever had a travel claim you will know how many companies use the small print to reduce or not pay your claim.

(I do not work for Fortis I'm just giving my opinion from 20 years experience in the trade, other people will no doubt have other experiences)

PLEASE PLEASE REMEMBER TO DECLARE ALL EXISTING MEDICAL CONDITIONS EVEN THINGS YOU DO NOT SEE AS IMPORTANT SUCH AS BLOOD PRESSURE, YOU MUST ALSO DECLARE ANY CONDITIONS FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY WHETHER TRAVELLING OR NOT(THIS APPLIES WITH ALL TRAVEL INSURERS). IF YOU DO NOT DECLARE A CONDITION AND THEN HAVE A CLAIM CONNECTED WITH THAT CONDITION YOUR TRAVEL INSURERS WILL DECLINE THE CLAIM
  • I can't offer any advice on who are the best, but I can tell you that AXA have to be amongst the worst. My advice is stay well clear of AXA as they will use any method they can not to pay out.

I would agree with that totally, most people do not realise they underwrite a lot of the Branded or Scheme Travel Policies.
