I only ever getfollowed in Boots and really bad service! Not been served on no7 counter cuase all the 3 SA's there stand together chatting and it puts me off! Went in in my Tesco uniform and still they followed me - must look dodgy!!

Someone else mentioned on an earlier thread about being followed in Cribbs, perhaps it was you? I said back then that a security bod would either get fed up following me if I was on my own, as I take so long and dither about trying to make sure that I've got all the bargains, and that I've divided my shopping up into £10.00 amounts, etc, etc! Or if I have the children with me they're all so busy dashing in different directions, or playing in the revolving doors leading outside (dd3) that there's no way a security person would be able to decide which one of us to follow! I'm hardly inconspicuous anyway if I have the children, as I'm usually busy yelling whilst trying to get whatever it was that I read about on here!

Hi cheekyweegit - Many thanks for that detailed reply. It's been a while since I touched contract law at nightschool! :)

Out of interest, quick questions re. Free of Charge (FOC) transactions:-

At what point is the sale binding when the total is FOC or even a minus amount. In this instance, you're making no payment to the cashier.

Also, if the SA were to say "Oh, that's free" in bewilderment, and you replied "I accept", is that a binding contract? What if they then say "That can't be right - I'll just check with the supervisor."

    Hiya Dave and thanks

The sale is binding when the acceptance has been made by the sales assistant on behalf of the company involved when she takes your payment in exchange for the goods offered to her / him.

If and when a sales assistant queries something be it a price or offer they have not made a valid unconditional acceptance to your offer and thus no contract has been made at that point.

If say for example a price is queried or goods damaged as i will use for example. For arguments sake say Lynx Deodrant is £2.50 a tin and you want 2 tins, but there is two on the shelf, one is slightly bashed. You go to the checkout, make your offer to buy, but ask for money off the damaged tin, sales assistant refused, - you make the offer, but sales assistant refused = no contract.

Supervisor called and says yes, reducing it to £2.00 for the damaged tin. It is then the supervisor making the offer to you which you can accept or refuse to conclude the contract. Payment on this case is a formality after the contract has been concluded by your acceptance to pay £2 for the damaged tin. If you say no make it £1.50 and your on then you again become the offeror for the supervisor to accept on behalf of the company. She says yes you have your contract. Again payment a formality.

The sale / contract is only concluded when the assistant accepts your money as payment for your offer of the goods you have taken to the checkout, therefore if there is the querie alas they don't need to sell you the goods regardless of the prices / offers on show. (invitation to treat again which is an invitation to do business with you as is things like goods in magazines / catalogues - company does not actually have to sell you the items. It's the same with goods in a shop window.)

Hope this helps. Seems so easy at the time but harder to explain in laymans terms - if anyone reading doesnt understand please say and i will edit the post and break it down again if necessary.

PS Those valentine smiley's werent there earlier today were they ? Had to add some though as they are cute!

From the ac machine- 100 points on Mystique, Boots new ladies triple blade razor. This is £3.79, on Bogof ( all Boots ladies shaving stuff) and the 100 points adds on each item. So I got 1 razor and 3 sets of blades for £7.50 with 400 points, which isn't bad, especially when made up to £10 for extra points and skincare vouchers.
Thanks for the TS tips- not much in Chelmsford apart from the eau de toilette which as mentioned is £2.50 but from £9.99. It is in a plastic case and the new stuff in a cardboard sleeve.Thought it might be good for tomorrow... :kisses:

    Boots Newcastle under Lyme

Bodyform £1 vouchers - only three packs had the vouchers on them and the rest looked like new stock (minus vouchers).

Morrisons have loads of Bodyform with the vouchers on

    Still no Avene offer locally.

They ran out of the 99p chocs aswell.
The curve that can set a lot of things straight is a smile

Were there any of the Avene bags in Chelmsford?
  • Had a miserable day yesterday :( Started off with a road-rage idiot giving me a mouthful because I honked my horn at him for cutting me up, then I had problems in Argos trying to buy a birthday present for DH. I had reserved the item but they couldn't locate it, then they managed to locate one but it had obviously been opened and was not in a new state. I was there for almost an hour and the SA was really rude about it all too.

Should have known by now that it wasn't going to be my day, but grabbing the chance to have a good mooch without being weighed down by a Tazmanian Devil-like toddler and two stroppy teenagers, off I trundled to Boots. It was packed and I was constantly getting knocked into by arrogant "nobody else is as important as me" shoppers. AC was out of order and couldn't find any freebies or bargains.

Decided to buy some Bodyform for DD and bought enough to go over the £10. Paid up but never received the skincare/chocs voucher. When I queried it, the SA was quite uninterested, informing me that they didn't have any left  Nobody else seemed to have any either. Asked to speak to someone else about it and eventually a "Team Leader" came out and was just as unhelpful. I had only spent over £10 to get the voucher so I didn't want to walk away without it, but the Team Leader would not offer any recompense at all. I remember a while back when Boots were giving away £5 No7 vouchers, my Mum had bought over a tenners worth of stuff but they had no vouchers, when she queried it the manager immediately put 500 points onto her card instead. No such luck for me!

To cut a long, miserable story short, OH took my receipt into another Boots today and explained what had happened, where they gladly gave him a voucher. If you have been given a voucher, there should be something on the receipt, "Ch/skn vch uk earn". So if you find yourself in the same position I was in, you could try another store. Not having the "Ch/skn vch uk earn" on the receipt is proof that you never got one. HTH somebody
