I called Nationwide last week for the account number of a loan I have since settled, but was paying 2 years of PPI on 4.5K. Explained on the phone that I needed the account number so I can send a letter in to reclaim PPI. (was careful in what I said as aware they record calls) Woman on the phone said she'd put a complaint through for me in meantime.
I sent the letter on Friday last week. But have since had a latter back today ( in regards to the complaint the woman put through) with the following:
"I would firstly point out that your loan taken in Month/Date/Year was processed in one of our Nationwide Building Society branches. This is highly relevant in our response as they do not use and have never used an advised process with regard to the insurance product. They are all non-advised, information only units. No advice was given and no recommendations were made. We did not sell the insurance cover. Our representative simply followed your request for a personal loan with insurance."
The letter goes on.
Am I going to be able to proceed and get my PPI payments back or is that it?
When I took the loan the following happened which I have put in the letter:

When I took the loan the following happened which I have put in the letter:
- your salesperson stated / implied that taking out the policy would assist my credit application.
- your salesperson stated / implied that taking out the policy was essential for me to get the associated credit

Hi there
Please try not to worry, I think they are fobbing you off, and its still their responsibility here.
If you feel you have a case here write back and tell them your not happy with their response.
How long ago was the lioan taken out?
Is it still active or settled?
They still have a responsibility here, so write back to them and tell them your not satisfied with their response and want this properly investigated, if they are unable to do this you will not hesitate but to contact the Financial ombudsman service and take further action with this matter.
Hopefully they will come back with a more favourable response this time, but what office did you send your letter? The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Hi there
So its these you are actually waiting for a reply from then?
You have the correct address for these complaints anyway.
May I ask how long you have been waiting exactly hun? thanks.
They have 8 weeks to respond in full and if this is not successful they should give you the opportunity to write again if your not satisfied with their response, or until you exhaust the complaints procedures, they should then enclose the FOS details with the last response.
But keep at them, its still their responsibility where I am sure the FOS will see it your way here, good luck and others may possibly post up at some point today as well.

Hi there K
How long have they had in dealing with your complaint?
If its over the 8 weeks and they have not got back to you yet, have you taken further action here, such as with the FOS or so?
Sorry if you have already mentioned this on another thread lol.

Never heard so much rubbish in all my life.
I applied for a loan with Nationwide a while ago (in my local branch).... and guess what they tried to sell me....
No hard sell or push - just would youlike it, - can your afford it if you lose your job. At time, I just answered yes as have income protection insurance (i didnt but thats not the point) and they just said fine. - but they do try to sell it as such in branchNo Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

OP stated that the response they received stated that they employees in Nationwide branches did not advise on insurance products. (but they do)No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.
