Cordless Irons

I remember several years ago campaigners wanted all irons to be cordless and then there were more cordless irons than corded. The reason that they wanted irons to be cordless is that to prevent children tugging the flex and get a hot iron landed on them.
Now it's impossible to get a cordless iron for my mother as likes them as she has 5 cats at home and they jump all over the place.
Does anyone know why manufacturers are making fewer cordless irons? I have checked 4 shops in my area and not one sells a cordless

Cordless irons have been banned on health and safety grounds.
Apparently people were mixing them up with cordless phones, and burning their ears...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
