Changing an economy 7 meter with E.ON
Hi
Has anyone had any dealings with Eon regarding changing a economy 7 electric meter over to a standard one? My current tariff is their online extra saver 8. With the massive price rises over the last year Ive started to monitor my energy usage. Ive carefully worked out our electricity usage on my current tariff and compared it to Eon's online extra saver 12, this is a tariff with no E7, and this quarter I would be around £29 better off. Which roughly equates to a 18% saving.
Any help would be appreciated before I make a phone call.

Hi Jimexbox,
You can change on to one rate prices without needing a meter change, just contact E.ON and tell them that you would like to change on to the Version 12.
They should be able to calculate savings for you, most of the prices offer economy 7 and one rate prices.
Economy 7 is normally better for people with storage heaters and if you use a large amount of energy at night.“Official Company Representative

Hi jimexbox - let us know how you got on please
When I was with Eon on E7, every time I enquired about going onto a single rate tariff their helpful call centre staff told me I would need a new meter fitted ... and would be charged handsomely for it.
Perhaps all the members of their staff I spoke to all were mis-informed, perhaps E.on have recently changed thier policy, ... or perhaps you will need a new meter and be charged for it."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

.
Rang them, spoke to a helpful lady who actually new her stuff. She offered to change me over to their non E7 tariff immedialtly, confirming what the 'rep' here said that you can use your E7 meter. I didn't see why you have to change it anyway, you just have to use the day rate exclusively and ignore the night rate.
She confirmed what I thought, that I would save around £140 a year on their non E7 online v8 tariff. I would even save slightly more moving to their v12 tariff as it has a slightly higher discount rate.
Nice saving for a 5 minute phone call. :beer:0 -

Is that what the E.on representative said they would do?
If so, sounds like you'll get a bargain ... or an horrendously expensive bill later when they discover the error"Now to trolling as a concept. .... No.
I no meter expert, but I would presume that the E7 one I have (non clock dial) day and night rate turns at exactly the same speed at a non E7 model. You simply have two readings to differentiate the time of day. Its your tariff which decides your bill.
So you could use either the day or night reading as your starting point for the new bill. Like I said I may be wrong, maybe a rep can explain.0 -
Hi jimexbox,
Just to clarify for you, if you have an E7 meter and you are billed on a one rate tariff, the day and night units are added together, the total units used is then billed at your new unit rates.
Remember now you will have a primary rate and a secondary rate, (that's if you have chosen a no standing charge tariff).:)“Official Company Representative

Oh yeah. The day meter stops reading at night. Doh!! you would have to add them together.
On my old E7 online v8, I had 3 rates. Night, day primary and day secondary.0 -
As you have now come off the E7 you no longer have the night unit prices, just primary and secondary.
The primary units are the first 900kWh per year, all remaining units used will be billed at the seconary rate.
This is how it works (for E.ON)
900kWh for the year for primary units
Divide this by the number of days in the year 365
Then multiply this by the number of days the bill covers
This will then give you the amount of units that will be charged at the primary rate.
So for example, if your bill covered a 100 day period, you would be charged for 247 units at the primary rate. The rest of the units on your bill are charged at the secondary rate. You will not in any circumstances pay for more than 900kWh in a year period.
Hope this helps:)“Official Company Representative

So how did you calculate the £29 per quarter saving?
... and more importantly, howcome the E.on representative you spoke to confirmed that you'd save even more than that amount?
