I have the Belkin N1 Wireless Modem router.
I have it hardwired to my PC.
But I have the wireless turned on for my mothers laptop.
I have the scurity mode set to "802.11b&802.11G&802.11n"
And have a security PSK set.
Normally when the laptop is on, that is the only time the wireless light on the router comes on.
But recently, when the laptop has been turned off I have noticed the wireless light has been on. And when I have gone into the router settings it has said "1 Lan, 2 WLAN". Surely it should only be 1 WLAN as my mothers laptop is the only device.
What settings can I check and verify?
And what should I do?
I don't wanna have to have the wireless turned off all the time, but dont want someone using my internet either.
Cheers

Just change the password/phrase/key if you are worried.
It is normal for lights to flash when the computer is off.0 -
In general, the wireless light stays on as long as the wireless is turned on.0

Yes but why would it say 2 WLAN? Like now for example when nobody is even using any WLAN at allLive for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0

Can't you view a list of all the attached devices?0

you should beable to see attached devices in the router menu. also you could just change the password to connect to the router. It is generally not possible to crack the network wpa passcode unless someone guessed your password. The light should go off when your not connected to the router via wifi0

I don't think I've ever used a wireless router that has a light that switches off when no one's wirelessly connected to it.
Wifi stays on whether or not anything is connected.0 -
this belkin thing has a screen on it, so it tells you how many devices are connected yeah?0

Log into the setup screen and it will tell you how many devices are connected at THAT time. Change the passkeys if your unsure. You can also set it to only accept particular MAC codes if you want (Meaning only those computers etc will work)
As for it being number 2 ~thats quite possible and nothing to worry about:idea:0 -
It is probably someone trying to use your connection, I have the N1 vision and occasionally the wireless connected number fluctuates, we have 5 wireless devices and it keeps jumping to 6 then back down to 5 as someone tries to connect, I found out it was a neighbor when he brought his laptop to me he had tried to connect to my router as his wasn't working for a few hours but it was set to the preferred. I changed the SSID of my router to stop it but I have a strong key on there anyway but it was annoying to see the number keep changing.0

WPA PSk may be harder to crack then WEP but it is by no means impossible. A simple google search will show you how it can be done. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
