Wahey Credit Cards Paid Off

Been lurking here since last May, when I had a my flickering lightbulb moment, just before all the lights were finally about to go out, I realised I had to sort my finances out,
Was coming to the end of my 3rd year at uni, with 1 more year to go, and had amassed £3600 on Barclaycard, 2 student overdrafts totalling £3000, and had just started a part time job earning £500 a month so had a bit of money to start paying off some debts.
Luckily in May I won £2290 for 5 numbers on the lottery, and decided to use £1000 towards my debts, £1000 on a car and £300 for holiday spending money.
After getting my head out the sand and reading this forum, I realised I was being ripped off for payment protection on the Barclaycard, been paying for 8 years, as took the card out the week after my 18th, , I cancelled that, saving about £20 a month, then took the plunge and opened a Virgin card to Balance transfer to for 9 months 0%, again saving over £20 a month in interest, things started getting addicitive and I've been on a major cutting back mission to put money back in my pocket to get a bit closer towards being debt free.
Been throwing most of my money at the cards, and have enjoyed in a strange kind of way checking the balances online to see them decreasing each month, I've had both cards trying to tempt me further in, with credit limit increases, total available £9k for a student!
Finally paid both cards off this month, and today cancelled with Barclaycard, what a great feeling! might reapply in a bit and try some stoozing, and start regain the £446 back that they've taken in late payment fees.
For now though, I'm just happy with the £0 Balance and Virgin card for emergency use only.
So just wanted to share my experiences and say Cheers as this forum has helped me stay focussed in getting rid of these !!!!!'s of debts. :T
Just got to work on the 2 student overdrafts now, want to clear the £3000 overdraft before June when I graduate, its in sight and I cant wait :j

Well done, it's nice to get your own back and know that the money goes in your pocket, not theirs. It gets addictive, and I am so happy for you.
Keep up the good work.0 -
