Hi
I looked out my tefal electric steamer today, after a few years with it lying at the back of the kitchen cupboard. I want to cook rice in it, but seem to have misplaced the rice bowl.
Is it ok to put a microwavable dish in it to cook the rice. Wasn't sure if that was safe so thought I would check before doing so.
Thanks

I would think it would be, im sure the temperature is higher in a microwave than a steamer, but would be worth the first time you use it to keep an eye on it, just in case!!!! Might be worth getting in touch with tefal, to see if they sell replacement bowls (im sure they would!!!)0

I have used china glazed ramkins in my steamer. And not had any problems.
Tefal have a website here
Hope that helps.

did you get a bowl?
I bought a steamer last month and it came with a rice bowl, I'm so impressed with the rice
I'd recommend a steamer just for cooking riceI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I have a steamer but I always cook rice in my microwave. How long does it take in a steamer and what do I do, just put the rice in the bowl dry or add some water to the bowl?
Sorry to be so thick about this, it just doesn't seem obvious.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Thanks for all your replies. My friend has a spare rice bowl for a steamer which she is going to give me, so I haven't bothered trying anything else. Hopefully I will get it in the next few days as I am looking forward to trying the rice out.
Have just done my potatoes and veg in it for tea and I thought that it had a much nicer taste than usual (and also a lot healthier)0 -
no problem. I used to use a little dish I had. Proportions are 1 of rice to 1 of water. Steam (in mine) about 25 mins. I use basmati rice. Good result0
