  • It's still open, always good for a bank to name a deadline to get the punters in! Although it certainly is a 'limited issue' account to worth getting in quick before they do close it.
  • Thanks - I'll try 2mr.

I was in Barclays today (sorting out my £100 incentive current a/c) and I was told that on the 16th they are launching a new Regular Saver Account at 10% interest. The Personal Banker thought that the maximum per month would be £250. But I expect all will become clear after the 16th.

Anyone got any more info on this?
  • No - don't know anything about the Barclays Reg Saver, but opened a 10% account with Bradford and Bingley today, so it did not end on Saturday. However, at the end the Branch Manager advised me to ring a few days after my dd date just to check the money had gone in - is this normal? Don't really want to waste a phone call!!!

I was also told to check and the reason for this is the reference number they use (can't remember it exactly but something like) 1234SRM0056GP.
The crucial thing to watch is that 00 is zero, zero and not the letter O. Because the zero, zero follow letters quite often it is mistaken for the letter O and therefore gets returned as no such account exists. So when I took the STO into my bank, I made sure I had fully clarified this on the form. I did mention in the B&B that maybe they should change the account number to make it easier, but of course that would be too much to ask!

Barclays 10% Regular Saver is out tomorrow. Unfortunately, there's a major downer as you have to have a linked Barclays current account:

I went into my local branch this morning and opened one, so it is still on offer here in the north east anyway. There was a short queue at 10 a.m. so word has got round. They all looked like "grey pounders" to me! We must be the only ones with the time to go into the branches!

It took a while as the guy tried to sell me other products but it was not a hard sell. So the offer is still there if anyone is interested.

Actually I took my passport for ID and then lost it from my handbag while out shopping! I wouldn't mind but I never take my passport anywhere normally. Anyway all's well that ends well because a kind lady found it and rang me to let me know. I was beginning to go frantic, as I am off to France in two weeks. Such kind actions restore your faith in human nature.

I hope this account is worth all the angst I have had today! Good luck!

It's still up on the web site, suggesting it's still available.

I'm going to go down today, as this is a suitable replacement for my previously 7% and now a pitiful 4.75% Abbey Monthly Saver
