What are HAVEN Standard Caravans like - Should I upgrade?

Hi
Can anyone give me some advice please.....
We have managed to get one of the Sun £9.50 holidays.......which so far is costing £123.
It's in a standard caravan and I was wondering what they are like? We are going to Haven Greenacres in June and it would be an extra £40 for a Luxury caravan or £72 for a luxury plus for the 4 nights as there are only 2 of us it's quite a lot.:o
I have looked at the accom. photos on the site but it's quite hard to tell you can't really zoom on the photos for a better look to compare them! The the only difference with the luxury one seems to be that it's more modern and the Luxury Plus does have 20% more space and a microwave which would be great but £72 still seems a lot - could buy a microwave to take for £20!!!! lol!!
So I just would like to know what the standard ones are generally like at Haven sites?
Any feedback appreciated.
Cheers!

i think a standard is ok myself esp in the summer My only thing ive found is the newer ones are better insulated so warmer in the cold. So how come your £9.50 each holiday is costing so much. I like greenacres btw and im interested about the route to Black Rock Sands this year because all the travel/caravan books ive owned tells you to turn at woolworths
(that,ll fool a few)
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
HI,
We have been to Greenacres a few times- with Sun holidays, never upgraded and once in school Easter holidays got the most luxurious caravan ever with ensuite, thermostat controlled heating free standing 3 piece suite and huge fridge freezer! I have never had a bad caravan there- if it was me i wouldnt bother to upgrade- quite often they will upgrade people anyway-to fit everyone in and as a couple i would think they would be more likely to upgrade you to a luxury one than a family of say 8!!( no offence intended to any familys of 8!)0 -
We stayed in a standard caravan in Devon Cliffs last Summer. It was ok. It was clean and tidy which was my main concern. I'd keep the extra cash to spend on yourselves whilst you're there.0

I do think it's funny that £9.50 holidays cost £123! I've been looking at a really nice B and B today and that was £150 for three nights (£75 each).0

Thanks everyone for your replies :T
I'm leaning towards sticking with Standard it is only 4 nights after all.
Not done the £9.50 Sun holidays before but personally don't know if I would bother again? Doesn't seem to be much of a saving? Can't find a price for the standard one to compare but if we were to upgrade the Sun Holiday to a Luxury Plus it would be £195ish and if I was to go on the Haven website and book the same thing it would be £190ish so not even a saving although I'm sure this can't always be the case for everyone as people seem to go mad for them?
This is how it works out £123:
Although there are 2 of us you have to pay for 4 people minimum and the dates we chose were the more expensive £15 holiday dates so:
Initial Cost 4 x £9.50 = £38
Main Season Supplement 4 x £5.50 = £22
Service Charge = £23.96
Entertainment Pass 2 x £7.95 = £15.90
Linen = £14 (Optional)
Insurance = £8.50(optional)
SO Total = £122.36
Greenface - They will have to put a Sign up "this is where woolworths used to be" if someone takes the shop over - so people don't get lost!!!
mumoftwoandapig - Hope we get upgraded to the one you describe - Sounds nice0 -
Hi we booked a standard van with the sun hols at Haggerston 2 years ago and we were dissapointed with the stndard of the van. We then went to Craig Tara last year and upgraded and the van was like night and day.
This might only be in our case but at Haggerston we met a lot of people who had the same complaints as us.
We have booked for Craig Tara this year again and went for a superior van and booked through the park direct as it was cheaper than paying the upgrade through the sun. However it is a short break in Sept we book for.
Hope this helps.0 -

I guess for a couple, booking in school term time, as you have to pay for four people anyway- it may work out cheaper to book direct. However the reason we have used them so often is for a family of four, during school holidays it works out a lot cheaper and means we can have an Easter as well as a summer holiday.
If you buy the entertainment passes it includes use of swimming pool - for a family of four at our local baths - that is 10 pounds for an hour session- so times that by the 5 days you are there, take off the electicity and gas you arent paying at home and it works out a good value break.
We always take linen with us and dont bother with insurance and take our own food as well - again keeping costs down.0 -

Yes, I can understand a family, I was referring to the OP. It doesn't look such a good deal for a couple.0 -
We booked to go to the Blue Dolphin near Filey last year, thought we were getting a standard but got a luxury instead - For £75 for 4 of us it wasn't a bad deal, we paid for the entertainment passes, electric and linen (Which was already on the beds anyway and we got given extra) We have rebooked through the Sun again this year, and are going to Devon Cliffs - it is costing us about £80 for the 4 nights, the same week in the Haven brochure is £149 so we are saving quite a lot of money. We haven't gone for the insurance, and will take our own linen this time and food again. What I can't understand is why the electric charge is double the amount we paid for last year, when we are going at a warmer time of year - makes no sense and I will query this with them when I ring to pay the balance!
What I would say, is go with no expectations and you can't lose - the Sun holidays for the price are great, the only thing you aren't guaranteed is the weather!!!Motto: You gotta be in it to win it!:j
2015 Objective - Pay off credit cards/Overpay mortgage
2015 Wins: Nothing yet, but keeping trying :T0 -
try looking up the site you are visiting on a site like tripadvisor.... you may not have to upgrade.0
