Nokia phone and T-mobile

Hi,

I was given a Nokia 3330 phone by my nephew a while back but haven't yet used it. He used T-mobile 121 - I'm pretty sure as a "pay as you go" customer. When I dial 150 to access T-mobile a message pops up saying "No network coverage" so I've emailed them to contact me and assume I have to reregister it and then go for one of their pay as you go schemes. But is there a lot of difference between theirs and other similar ones? And if I wanted to choose a different scheme, is it possible to do this and how? Do I have to unlock the SIMM card or something?

I appreciate your help.

Thanks

Karen DB

It sounds a bit like that SIM has expired from non-use (180 days I think). Maybe they can reconnect the same number, or will send you a new SIM (probably free).

You can unlock the phone to use the SIM cards of any network, and on Nokias this involves entering a unique code for your phone that you can ask about on the thread at the top of the board. You need the phone's IMEI number - get it by pressing *#06# - and to tell them the network.

Then, as for which network is best, how long is a piece of string? There are often free SIM offers from all the networks. The main networks have tended to charge more for the first 3 or 5 minutes in a day, and more to other networks, but that seems to be changing. Some have inclusive minute or text bundles.

It probably depends most on how much use you envisage, and perhaps to start with that is fairly modest? There was a Virgin SIM offer with £5 value on it, but it has unfortunately just expired. I think I would suggest O2. With a £10 top-up, you get 100 across-network minutes in the first month, and they have a Joining Treats offer which has free call bundle options for 3 months. Or there is a Tesco offer which sounded cheap, but I can't remember the details; try a search for Tesco.

Thanks redux for your really helpful info - I'll do a bit of research and also await t-mobile to contact me and take it from there.

    Best regards,
