Mother's Day

Hi
I am looking for some inspiration for Mother's Day please! I have a really bad habit ... well I suppose it's not a bad habit but anyway ... of buying my mum presents just randomly or going a bit overboard with presents at Christmas etc.
However, this coming Mother's Day I'm quite skint! (3rd year student, just been made redundant from job) But she is the most amazing mum and I don't know what I would do without her. I know she knows I appreciate her but I want to do something really special for her this year. And yes I know technically it's just a commercial day but like I say I do spoil her randomly and regularly but I just want to say thank you to her, some way!
I really like the hampers idea (I've been looking at all your hampers etc for the last 2 hours!) but I wouldn't have a clue what to put in it? And on a budget? Any other ideas would be much appreciated
Sorry I've really rambled so if you've made it to the end of this post then thanks a million!:T

You could pop a couple of your mum's favourite things in a little box or basket or do something with a relaxing theme such as bubble bath, a candle, bar of her fave chocolate...?
Do you have anything that you could recycle into a gift for your mum?
Have you heard of journal jars? Makes a fab pressie and doesn't have to cost much at all... http://organizedchristmas.com/adult-journal-jar/ http://www.dennydavis.net/poemfiles/jrnljar.htm
How about making a cake or bicuits? Lots of yummy recipe ideas on this site... http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/recipes/
You can name a star for your mum for free on this site... http://www.freenameastar.com/register.php
This is a fab pressie and can be made for next to nothing, it's a box of hugs... http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=453
Take your mum for a day out - picnic in the countryside/ window shopping...
Frame a photo of the two of you together.
You could make a card.
Any good?
Remember, it's the thought that counts, good luck

Thank you for all your suggestions rain mac, they're very much appreciated

I'm definitley going to go with the box of hugs ... thanks so much for that link
Obv that's not all I'll get her but I really like the idea.
The only problem with my mum is that she doesn't really have favourite things ... I know that sounds weird but she doesn't really watch dvds or any hobbies (god that makes her sound so sad ... she's not though!) and whatever favourite things she likes I tend to just buy her on the spot anyway!
Thanks again though, I have noted all ideas

If you go onto hotukdeals.com there is an Elizabeth Arden brush and compact set for £2.95. Have a look at that. I got that for my mum for Mothers Day. Any others ideas would be greatly appreciated. Usually go overboard but cannot afford to this year.0

as part of my mums christmas stocking i made home made shortbread - she was made up with it, for her birthday pressie i cooked lunch for her, my dad and myself (i got her flowers and a gift) i would have normally been round for lunch as it was a sunday - but i went home after churched and picked up my scratch made lasagne and salad and took round to cook in her oven - my mum reveled in the fact everything was done for her (normally i would take her out for a meal - but could not afford it at the time) - she was made up with the thoughtfullness!!

Thanks everyone for all your ideas. I have taken them all on board. I think I am going to make her a nice lunch as I don't live at home and can't really cook all that well so I think even if it doesn't taste that nice (even though I'm going to try my hardest) she's still going to appreciate the effort
I will most likely pop in a few of the forementioned ideas as well. Thanks again x 0 -
Uh oh ... someone else with a Mother like mine!! Ha ha ... well, mine doesn't wear jewellery, so that's out ... she isn't "into" anything really, either and it is such a pain to start wondering what to get her!!
Christmas, birthday and Mother's Day, I hate ... I start dreading it a month before it comes round ... *L*
But, being a relative newbie to here, I had been reading up about the hampers and thought naaahhh, there is NO WAY I could ever put one of those together ... well, they look so gorgeous, so nicely arranged and all that cellophane wrap with the gorgeous ribbons ... I mean, let's face it, you would think they had been bought in one of the big department stores!
Anyway, long story longer ... *L* ... but I've done one!!! Aaarrgghh! And do you know, it has taken me just over a week to get things together! I am absolutely stunned!!
Ma doesn't do body lotions at all, but I dropped on a gorgeous Bayliss and Harding double bottle set of luxury handwash in Morrisons when I went shopping ... lovely pink colours too ... perfect!
I got her a 60's cd (brand new, but on a market stall today at £2.99 - all original artists) ... I got a reflexology foot massager thingy from the charity shop at just £1 (obviously an unwanted Chrissie present and still all packaged really nice!), a little bottle of perfume, a large scented candle from B& M Bargains (French lavender, in a shaped glass container for just £2.99), one of those Comfi roll cushion thingies .. I remember reading about those on here ... some folks have them for travel pillows, but they are really firm and will be brilliant for anyone who does a lot of reading in bed! And only £2.99 too!
What else ... oh yes, in B & M they have huge slabs of chocolate for 79p .. one of Ma's faves is Bourneville, so I got a big slab of that ... a mini bottle of champagne from Home Bargains for 79p (it's actually a sparkling wine but tastes very nice!) ... oh, and a big bag of coconut mushroom sweeties that she's rather partial too .. they were 49p B & M. I also got a lovely pink polka dot fleece blanket from there too to put at the bottom of the basket so everything stands up properly. She is always complaining about being cold, so I figure she can keep this to hand and wrap up in it while watching tv!
I'd snaffled a wicker type basket from Morrisons in the New Year sale for £3 and I have just bought 5 metres of gorgeous cellophane from Ebay for £1.75 ... clear with small, spaced out white dots.
You can get that lovely coloured tissue paper cut into strips (shredded up) for 50 odd pence at Card Warehouse shops, to put between the pressies and it really looks nice, too!
So all in all, everything's bought and in place in the basket and I'm just waiting on the cellophane now! I might even be inspired enough to make a card this year too ... hhhmmm .. we'll see!
But basically, go for it ... go have a look round the charity shops because it's amazing what gets sent there as unwanted gifts. Oh, I also got a memo pad noteblock from the charity shop for £1, but the outside container is decorated with Art Deco ladies, so I've stuck that in too!!
Have a go ... it's surprising what you can find and it is so easy to put it all together, too!!0 -
Hi Kirsty,
Last year we did my Mum a chequebook of favours for her to cash in on, such as a manicure, pedicure, help with the gardening, cooking lunch etc, and she really appreciated it.
Must do something different this year, so hope you don't mind me looking at what others have suggested as well!
