Tiscali - new 12 month contract or not?

I joined Tiscali for broadband and home phone back in October 2007. In October 2008 I took up an offer of £14.99 a month including line rental for broadband.

Unfortunately I now want out of the contract because my digital television recorder has broken (13 months into ownership so after the warranty has run out, typical ) and it can no longer record programmes, or even in fact switch on!

I assume by changing my package slightly to take advantage of an offer in Oct 2008, I'm locked into another 12 month contract until this October, which would cost £14.99 x 8 = £120 to buy out of.

A decent new DTR would cost £200ish. I looked into upgrading to Tiscali TV+ (including a Sky+ style box) but my telephone exchange doesn't support it.

I can't get Virgin Media including TV as our street (despite living in central Bristol) was never cabled due to a dispute with the builders and Telewest!

Unless I want to fork out for a new DTR, I'm stuck until October on Tiscali then?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Cheers.

Ask you local trading standards about your digital recorder, as it could still be repaired under warranty, if it fails after just 13months then it is not of durable quality. So have ago, it could save you a lot of agro and money.
