Can anyone give us any tips???
We live in a semi detached house, which has central heating and just recently we have had loft insulation put in.....
We can't have cavity wall insulation says the survey guy as we have yorkshire stone house :9
Trouble is we have a baby due in 7weeks and we cannot get the nursery above 13c radiator is on full doesn't seem to be making a difference.
We have an extractor in the bathroom but try and keep the door shut to the bathroom but again no real difference comes of it...
Can anyone suggest anything that we have missed? or is it we simply have an old house thats cold?

Are there draughts from the windows or window frames?
Does the loft hatch fit correctly?
Does the front door fit, or is cold air rushing up the stairs to the babies room? maybe a thick curtain across the front door if it is.

Is the radiator hot all over? Perhaps it needs bleeding or the system is losing pressure if it's far from the boiler? Could you just need a bigger radiator?
What's the glazing like in that room?
The bathroom extractor should make no difference, it's sucking air out, not pumping it in

Have you got double glazing?
Curtains? Get some thick heavy curtains lined with thermal blackout material. This will keep out the drafts and cold, as well as keeping it dark in the daytime - might help your baby get some sleep when it is light?
Draft excluders are worth a try as well - you can get this tape with sponge on that goes all around the door or window frame and helps to seal up any little gaps. And the snake things that go at the bottom of doors can be handy too.
How hot is your house downstairs?0 -
Is the floor cold, especially near the edges? We had draughts flowing under our upstairs floors. The air was coming in around the joists. Unfortunately, the only way to fix it is to lift a couple of floor boards. Lift a couple parallel to the outside wall and have a look. I used decorators caulk, but any mastic or silicone will do.0

Hello thanks for your questions the loft hatch does need replacing as it's just a board covering it at the minute.
As for the windows Im not sure I can't make my mind up on them it is double glazed but they are steamed up on a morning...does that tell us anything?
The radiator it hot all the way up and has only just been fitted....we did this as the last one was really old and thought that the radiator might solve the freezing problem.....unfortunatly not:rolleyes:0 -

Thanks I will have my hubby look into that as he felt before the carpet went down the floor was cold0 -
Sorry I meant to say as well we have had a brand new upvc door put on too to keep the cold out and still having the problems...maybe it's just a freezing house lol0

We have one room in our house that's colder than the others but it's in a first floor extension and sits right over the garage. Is yours over a cold downstairs area?0

Has the room got 2 external walls, if so with no wall insulation this could be the problem.0

It has got two external walls it's the front corner of the house...but then again upstairs in general seems to be a problem as far as the cold goes. Think we've just reconised it more in the nursery because it has a thermometer (spell check lol).0
