  • My mother received a cold call today from someone claiming to be from Scottish Power telling her that they had taken over Southern Electric/Gas and she would have to sign a contract with them.
    She was also told that both her neighbours had signed up because of the change and she then signed up with Scottish Power.
    When she told me what happened I was and remain livid.
    I have called Scottish Power and they know nothing of this individuals lies and I am now having to travel to her home and sort this out.
    I intend advising the BBC (wATCHDOG and Radio 2 Jeremy Vine) as well as the Police as I consider what this individual has done is Fraud.
    If there is a cooling off period for cold call sales I will endevour to make use of it. If not, I will use the adverse publicity I can/will cause them as well as a complaint to the Police.

  • I suspect that all cold call salesmen/women only get paid for performance and therefore are tempted to tell lies or at least be "economical with the truth". I hope you can sort this out for your mother. My circumstance seems to a different case but I know how disruptive and distressing these things can be.

    they might learn to be more careful with their records if they have to pay for a fraction of other's time that they waste.
