Splitting up - my house deposit?

Thanks all, my partner won't entertain the notion of relationship counselling at all, I have asked before. He doesn't think 'interferring busy bodies' can help us.
I think he's expecting me to back down for an easy life...prob what Ive been doing for the last 12 years....so if we do split up I'm going to suggest we get solicitors/mediation involved as I think I should gt my deposit back, esp as our daughter will live with me when she's not at uni, I'll need to buy a bigger place than if I was just on my own.
Maybe if he knows I'm serious then he'll play ball. I'm not looking for more than a 50/50 split of the equity, I just want my deposit in relative terms back.0 -

He's right. All they can do is to help you (both) to help yourselves. They provide a "toolkit" so you can DIYThey're not "fixers" themselves.
Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

People bring different things to relationships besides income and if you share your life with someone then you do just that. I would go for a 50/50 split after deducting your £9k deposit.
I agree and that is why I said that I was not sure about the 70:30 split. Apart from 50:50 the might for example be a case for 75:25 or other ratios................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -
Thanks for all the replies everyone, I don't expect it will be an amicable split if it goes that way but hopefully it won't drag out any longer than necessary.
Sorry LesQuirk I don't understand your comment?
pixie I still think if you did finally stand in front of a judge (forget all the 50/50 brigade on here with the rose tinted glasses on) he would award you your £9k at todays money, after all if you drew up an agreement at the beginning the solicitors would have advised you to do it that way anyway.
However by suggesting the trust fund idea for the portion of the money you are both in disagreement over it could just be the middle ground that seals the deal.
By the way when this is all over can I come and live with you for £300 per month - just trying to bring a bit of levity to the situation!0
